Well Played, Sir

Yesterday we explored “Tomorrow’s Leftwing Freakout Today.” Orson Scott Card, the author of the novel Ender’s Game, which Hollywood has adapted into a movie version scheduled to be released in November starring Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley has issued a peremptory statement to perhaps head off the potential coming blacklisting, William Bigelow writes at Big Hollywood:

Orson Scott Card, whose novel Ender’s Game will soon be released as a feature film, has issued a statement to mollify critics of his long-standing position against gay marriage and head off a planned boycott of the film by gays and their supporters. Card stated in Entertainment Weekly:

Ender’s Game is set more than a century in the future and has nothing to do with political issues that did not exist when the book was written in 1984.

With the recent Supreme Court ruling, the gay marriage issue becomes moot.  The Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution will, sooner or later, give legal force in every state to any marriage contract recognized by any other state.

Now it will be interesting to see whether the victorious proponents of gay marriage will show tolerance toward those who disagreed with them when the issue was still in dispute.

In other words, ball’s in your court, fellas; think carefully as to how you proceed from here. (Think they’ll take Card up on his recommendation for tolerance? Not if past performance is any indication, unfortunately.)
