“So much of what was written in the wake of [9/11] was grotesque, and so much will be now,” Claire Berlinski writes at Ricochet.com. In contrast, “These newly-released photos by James Nachtwey prove that sometimes, photography has the power to say something new when words no longer can.”
Meanwhile, at the Corner, Daniel Foster has photos of a memorial at DeKorte Park in the New Jersey Meadowlands just across the river from Manhattan that you really must see for its ingenuity. As Foster writes, “It’s sober, simple, and elegant — and it hits you right between the eyes.”
But then, as James Lileks adds in the comments at Ricochet, “On a good day, the memory of 9/11 is three heartbeats away. Maybe four.”
