Let The Man Finish His Waffle Rhubarb Pie

Ahh, the more things change, the more they remain the same: “Obama shoos press during coffee stop,” the Politico’s Glenn Thrush reports:

The president of the United States likes his pie tart, his coffee stale and his reporters out in the parking lot.

President Obama, relaxed and strolling in shirtsleeves, popped by Jerry’s restaurant on Rte. 218 in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday and took the afternoon crew by surprise at around 2:30 p.m.
One of the workers immediately called his wife — who didn’t believe him — so he handed the phone to former Gov. Tom Vilsack, who was part of the entourage, to confirm that Obama had ambled in.

After chatting with a gray-haired patron, Obama asked his staff if he could stay for a cup of coffee — and began scanning a chalkboard over the kitchen that listed all the pies available: custard, chocolate, coconut, lemon, rhubarb, pecan, cherry, apple, peach and butterscotch.

“Let’s see,” Obama said, “rhubarb … and a cup of coffee.”

When someone offered to brew a fresh pot, the president, who had two dozen motorcade vehicles idling outside, said he’d take what was already at hand.

He then motioned to the reporters and said that one of the Iowans inside had told him, “They can leave.”

And so the reporters were herded out.

White House staffers later smoothed relations by bringing out fries and pecan pie a la mode.

As Obama plaintively asked in 2008 when caught by a journalist in a rare moment away from his wife, children, and teleprompter, “Why can’t I just eat my waffle?”

Meanwhile, regarding The One and his frequently all-too-Alinsky-esque rhetoric in general, not just to the media when they’re not needed, both Peter Wehner and Jennifer Rubin remind the all-too-forgetful cheerleaders at the Politico that “Obama’s Nastiness Is Not New.”
