As Jonah Goldberg wrote in Liberal Fascism, “Almost all committed environmentalists subscribe to some variant of the Wrong Turn thesis”:
[Al] Gore is more eloquent than most in this regard. He rhapsodizes about the need for authenticity and meaning through collective action: he uses an endless serious of violent metaphors in which people must be “resistance fighters” against the putatively Nazi regime responsible for the new Holocaust of global warming (again, on the left, the enemy is always a Nazi.) Gore alternately blames Plato, Descartes, and Francis Bacon as the white male serpents who tempted mankind to take a wrong turn out of an Edenic past. What is required is to reunite our intellects, or spiritual impulses, and our animalistic instincts into a new holistic balance. Nothing could be more fascistic.
Of course, sometimes the genius that is Al (who makes a um, larger than life guest appearance in today’s “Day By Day Cartoon” by Chris Muir) makes a few wrong turns of his own:

In other dispatches from the world of liberal fascism, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) displayed his best Dick Durbin impersonation on the Senate floor today, smearing conservative Republicans as Nazis for being against the same sort of socialized medicine ultimately brought to fruition in…National Socialist Germany.
Take two copies of 1984 out of petty cash Sen. Whitehouse — but remember, they’re a warning, not a user’s manual.
Update: “Sen. Whitehouse: foes of health care bill are birthers, right-wing militias, aryan groups.” Meanwhile, Jennifer Rubin adds, “it will be crystal clear who, when the chips are down, tried to stop the largest big-government power grab and tax-a-thon in decades and who rolled over. The opponents of those Democrats who rolled over will have a plethora of material for their campaign ads.”
