The FBI has agreed to hand over documents related to the anti-Trump dodgy dossier to the House Intelligence Committee, Speaker Paul Ryan announced on Thursday.
“The FBI got in touch with us yesterday afternoon and they have informed us that they will comply with our document requests, and that they will provide the documents that Congress has been asking for by next week,” Ryan said during his weekly press conference. “We expect the FBI to honor that commitment,” he added.
The House Intel Committee subpoenaed the FBI and the Justice Dept over two months ago for documents relating to the dossier, but neither department has complied, causing much frustration among GOP investigators who want to find out if the Justice Dept. and the FBI launched the Russia investigation based on its dubious “findings.”
“I want to know whether the nation’s premier law enforcement agency relied on a document that looks like the National Enquirer prepared it,” Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, told Fox News.
The speaker accused the FBI of “stonewalling” and “foot-dragging” during an interview with Reuters Wednesday.
A few hours later, according to Ryan, Justice Department officials contacted his office and assured his staff that the information would be provided.
