It has become abundantly clear in recent weeks that there was never any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia and the entire “investigation” has been a pretext for a fishing expedition. The “deep state” anti-Trump “resisters” behind the phony Russia probes figured correctly that somewhere along the way some big fish would get caught in their dragnet.
Former national security adviser Michael Flynn, for example, was busted for not being totally upfront with Vice President Mike Pence about his telephone conversation with the Russian ambassador. That made him vulnerable to Russian blackmail, according to former acting attorney general Sally Yates. Because obviously the Ruskies would use an innocuous conversation in which nothing improper or illegal was said to blackmail someone!
Never mind that Flynn was improperly unmasked and the conversation was illegally leaked to the media. We’re told there’s nothing to any of that.
Now, the narrative-peddlers are trying to nail Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has suddenly become a central figure in the Trump Team’s Russian collusion caper.
At the heart of the controversy is Sessions’ answer to a long and rambling question posed by Senator Al Franken during his confirmation hearing regarding alleged collusion with the Russians. Sessions answered: “I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”
Turns out Sessions had met with Sergey Kislyak, Moscow’s ambassador to Washington, twice in 2016 when he was a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. He met briefly with the ambassador as part of his regular duties as a senator — not as a Trump surrogate. Now, according to the breaking news broadcast on the radio all day Sunday at the top of every hour, there are (unsubstantiated) reports that he may have had a third meeting with the Russian ambassador in April of last year, and boy-oh-boy, do Democrat senators want to question him about that!
Keep in mind, this is the same MSM that could barely be bothered to report on Operation Fast and Furious, the Obama administration’s criminally insane gun-walking program that allowed thousands of guns to cross the border and be delivered into the hands of drug cartels in Mexico without any attempt to trace them, leading to hundreds of murders, including of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
That’s the MSM’s idea of a “nothingburger.”
NBC had to give its audience a brief primer on the scandal the week before the House voted to hold then-attorney general Eric Holder in contempt for withholding documents because NBC’s audience had been kept totally in the dark for 18 months. From the time the story was broken in early 2011 to the week before Holder was held in contempt (June 20, 2012), the network had reported on Fast and Furious precisely zero times.
The mainstream media continues to be disinterested in the scandal. A public hearing about Fast and Furious last week garnered very little — if any — media coverage.

The House Oversight Committee also Wednesday released a scathing, nearly 300-page report that found Holder’s Justice Department tried to hide the facts from the loved ones of slain Border Patrol Brian Terry – seeing his family as more of a “nuisance” than one deserving straight answers – and slamming Obama’s assertion of executive privilege to deny Congress access to records pertaining to Fast and Furious.

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, testified Wednesday in front of the committee, accusing DOJ and ATF officials of obstructing the investigation and working to silence ATF agents who informed the Senate of Fast and Furious.
“The Department of Justice and ATF had no intention of looking for honest answers and being transparent,” said Grassley, now chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a staunch supporter of whistleblowers.
“In fact, from the onset, bureaucrats employed shameless delay tactics to obstruct the investigation.”
According to Newsbusters, while “the Big Three Networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) spent Wednesday focusing on a Senate hearing they were hoping would implicate President Trump in obstruction of justice, they ignored a House Oversight Committee report.”
But it was “Katy, bar the door” on Sunday when “vague and unsubstantiated reports” about Sessions having a third meeting with the Russian ambassador emerged. Sessions is so worried about this bombshell revelation that he has agreed to a public hearing on Tuesday to answer all questions.
According to a statement from the Justice Department:
The Attorney General has requested the hearing be public. He believes it is important for the American people to hear the truth directly from him and looks forward to answering the committee’s questions tomorrow.
Sounds like a guy who really has a lot to hide.
At what point can we expect the Russia collusion investigation to produce evidence of actual collusion between Team Trump and Russia? The American people have been strung along for the better part of a year with promises that another big shoe is about to drop at any minute — but the big shoe always turns out to be a will-o’-the-wisp that floats away and leaves disappointed followers astray.
When the Sessions thing turns out to be another gaseous cloud of nothingness, they’ll move on to someone or something else.
Not Carter Page, apparently.
Page, as you may recall, is an investment banker, lecturer, foreign policy analyst, and former foreign policy adviser for Trump who was on the periphery of the campaign. And until very recently — according to the narrative — a Ruskie-loving spy and central figure in the Trumpian plot to collude with Russia and hack the 2016 election. But that was five minutes ago.
Now the alleged spy can’t even get Congress interested in hearing him testify about his (allegedly nefarious) campaign activities under oath.
Page is reportedly unhappy because he’s been “completely blocked” from testifying before congressional committees investigating Trump/Russia collusion.
Page complained former FBI Director James Comey had testified three times before congressional committees, while his request to testify about the “senseless witch hunt” had gone ignored.
“It is unfathomable that Comey got his third chance in as many months to testify about the senseless witch hunt that he led on behalf of the Clinton campaign and Obama administration, but I have been completely blocked from testifying,” Page told the Washington Examiner in an article published Saturday.
Don’t worry. Some other devastating revelation about Team Trump will emerge that will cause a week-long firestorm (before it fizzles out).
Maybe we can revisit how Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka “has been linked” to a NAZI group!!! Or how Steve Bannon actually IS a NAZI … or how Jared Kushner is something or other…
There’s always another big shoe to drop in the Russia collusion scandal, sources say.
But it will turn out to be a will-o’-the-wisp. And real scandals will be ignored because of it.
