A family in Abilene, Texas, was recently shocked to discover that their house was infested with rattlesnakes. Their first clue came when a fully grown rattlesnake emerged from their toilet bowl Tuesday morning, startling the Mcfadden’s young son, Isac.

“I found this big clump and I knew it was a snake,” Isac told KXVA. The little boy quickly alerted his mom, Cassie McFadden, to the “unexpected visitor” slithering up the toilet. “I was just like, what do you do with this? What do you do with this? I don’t know!” Cassie told the station.

McFadden recruited one of Isac’s older brothers to get a shovel. She quickly dispatched the snake while her husband, Jason, called Big Country Snake Removal.

On its Facebook page, Big Country Snake Removal explained that the snake had “found its way in from an opening in a relief pipe,” which the technician later sealed.

This was the first snake that the family has seen on the property in several years…. When I arrived, I immediately noticed a few problematic areas. Intuition took me directly to a storm cellar where I safely removed 13 adult rattlesnakes. After a thorough perimeter check, I crawled underneath the house where I removed another 10, 5 being babies…. 24 snakes total, (including the toilet snake) and the family had no idea….

How is this possible? It’s actually quite simple; rattlesnake are secretive and can be very cryptic- They rely heavily on their camouflage. This is simply how they survive. Just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there….

Isaac and his brothers offered their advice for other little kids who might find a similar surprise in their bathroom toilet. “If you find a snake, go get an adult,” said the Mcfadden boys.

Naturally, Big Country Snake Removal seized upon the incident as an advertising opportunity: “If you have any questions, concerns or if you’d like to schedule an inspection, please let us know,” the company wrote on its Facebook page.
