President-elect Trump’s nominee to be secretary of Defense, Retired General James “Mad Dog” Mattis, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee for two hours at his confirmation hearing Thursday morning. The unflappable Mattis handled all comers with aplomb, although some of his answers might have triggered some liberal tears.

“Senator, my belief is we have to stay focused on a military that is so lethal that on the battle field it will be the enemy’s longest day & worst day when they run into that force,” Mattis said in answer to one senator’s question.
