Johnny Depp Jokes About Assassinating Trump, Then Doubles Down on the Stupid

Johnny Depp is an incredibly talented actor. However, he shows some questionable behavior as a human being.

Even if you dismiss the allegations by now ex-wife Amber Heard that Depp was abusive, you still have his latest antics that may land him in some seriously hot water.

You see, Depp allegedly threatened to assassinate the president of the United States of America.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star was in Glastonbury, England, introducing the film, “The Libertine,” at an event called Cinemageddon when he brought up the president’s name.

“I think he needs help,” he said. “There are a lot of wonderful dark, dark places he could go.”

Then Depp told the audience:

“It’s just a question. I’m not insinuating anything. By the way, this is going to be in the press, it will be horrible, but I like that you’re all a part of it.

When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”

The crowd cheered wildly.

Depp then tried to dissemble, claiming he’s not an actor but that he lies for a living. It’s probably a good thing he didn’t mention that until after things were settled legally with Heard.

Now, Depp is far from the first celebrity to make such comments. However, he is the first to utter them following a terrorist attack in Alexandria, Va., that targeted Republican lawmakers and after at least one more seemingly politically motivated violent attack.

Frankly, it should be pointed out that joking about John Wilkes Booth might have been the poorest comedic decision Depp has made since he filmed The Lone Ranger.

What people like Depp need to understand is that, while they aren’t necessarily responsible for what others may do, they are providing cover for the unhinged in their own ranks. Left-wing extremists are looking for opportunities to strike, but they’re also likely looking for justification for their actions.

In and of itself, Depp’s comments are probably nothing but political comments that are simply way out of line.

However, it’s not “in and of itself.” It follows Kathy Griffin holding a severed head meant to look like President Trump. It comes after actual violence by leftists looking to hurt people who dared to disagree with the left’s orthodoxy.

While the Secret Service may want to have a chat with Depp over this, the actor would do well to look deep within himself and ask whether he really wants to enable further violence simply because he dislikes the sitting president.
