The Morning Briefing: Hard to Believe, but AOC Is Getting Even Dumber

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been flying a bit under the radar in recent weeks while the Elders of the Democratic village have taken center stage, both in the primary race and the impeachment drama.

There is no doubt that she’s been saying plenty of stupid stuff during that time — it’s what she does — but we just haven’t been hearing anything about it.

On Monday, the Democrats’ Ditz Supreme made her presence known again the way that she best knows how — via nonsensical word barf.

Matt wrote about Ocasio-Cortez’s comments at a Martin Luther King Day event and I’ll just offer a highlight here:

“We don’t have a left party in the United States. The Democratic Party is not a left party,” she said, receiving applause from the audience. “The Democratic Party is a center or a center-conservative party.”

AOC’s rationale for claiming that the Democrats aren’t leftists is that the most radical of leftist legislation like Medicare for All hasn’t gotten enough traction to satisfy her yet. Matt provides a good list of all of the things that truly do make the party quite left these days.

The integral component to the AOC phenomenon is that the volumes of inanity that issue forth from her mouth remain unchallenged by anyone in the press and her fellow Democrats. She could be on a Sunday news show telling the host that President Trump turns into a bat at night and flies around the country eating the brains of babies and no one on the panel would question her.

It used to bother me that AOC’s never-ending wrongness was allowed to exist in the world without any correction. Now I see it for the gift to Republicans that it is.

Her constant complaining about the Democrats being conservative, combined with the disproportionate media attention she gets will remain a source of internal strife for Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic leadership.

AOC is the reason that Pelosi got so far out over her skis on impeachment, upping President Trump’s reelection chances by a zillion percent or so.

So let her keep rambling, and may the press never realize that she is a blithering idiot.
