Following Russia’s loss to Croatia in the quarterfinal round of this year’s World Cup, both current and former members of the press jumped on Twitter to ridicule President Donald Trump — with at least one user calling for his impeachment.

“Russia loses to Croatia. Small comfort; but I’ll take it for Putin’s meddling and Trump’s enabling,” said Aaron David Miller, who lists himself as a CNN analyst in his bio. Miller also serves as the vice president and director of the Middle East program at the Woodrow Wilson Center.

Kirk Bohls, a sports columnist for the Austin American-Statesman, put forward a suggestion: “Thrilling game. Maybe Trump can invite Russia soccer team to the White House as a consolation prize.”

David Dwork, the sports lead and web producer for a CBS affiliate in Miami, had an announcement: “Donald Trump will now lower the flags at the White House following Russia’s quarterfinal loss in the #WorldCup”

Other writers cracked Russian war jokes.

Rus McLaughlin, a senior writer for Playstation and occasional contributor to VentureBeat, used his verified Twitter account to insult both President Trump and his supporters.

Regarding the ongoing Russia probe, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) recently called on FBI director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to “Finish it the hell up.”
President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, on July 16 after the July 11-12 NATO summit in Brussels.
