Michigan Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate Abdul El-Sayed once expressed his dedication to being compliant with Islamic sharia. What evils would he have to support if he really does want to be “sharia-compliant”?
In 2009, El-Sayed spoke with the New York Times, when he was a medical student purchasing his first home. El-Sayed had taken a “sharia-compliant" mortgage to buy a $123,000 condominium in Ann Arbor, Mich. “Ultimately, the question is, when I die and I stand before god and go through everything I did in my life, I don't want to say I did it the easy way instead of the Shariah-compliant way. Not because of fear but because of obligation,” El-Sayed told the Times.
The Washington Free Beacon explained that the loan was supposedly compliant with sharia because good Muslims allegedly cannot pay or collect interest, so some banks will add the amount of an ordinary interest rate directly into the principal for a loan. Thus, they receive the same amount of money but give Muslims the ability to claim self-righteously that they have honored Allah. Because when it comes to Islam, there is no value in honesty, interior holiness, or change of heart, but simply in following the letter of the law — or the letter of Allah.
Now, I happen to think El-Sayed probably is not fully sharia-compliant, if only because he simply defends fundamentalists who oppress and kill infidels rather than doing the oppressing and killing himself. But the fact that he said he honored sharia so much as a young man, and he has never disavowed it since but rather continued to take money from jihadis, is telling. Don't forget that El-Sayed's father-in-law works for Hamas-tied CAIR.
Sharia is the legal part of the Islamic religion, so it enforces all those precepts about rape, slavery, jihad, domestic abuse, pedophilia, misogyny, religious discrimination, polygamy, etc. that the religion's sacred texts put forth. Sharia looks a little different in multiple different nations, depending on how fundamentalist the Muslim rulers are. For instance, Qatar, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia, parts of Nigeria, Iran, and Pakistan are among the Muslim nations that have laws providing for the execution of those who "apostatize" or commit "blasphemy" under sharia. Meanwhile, Morocco, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Iraq are among the nations that impose lesser punishments such as fines or imprisonment for "blasphemy" under sharia. While all these nations agree that insulting Allah and Muhammad (which can include simply stating facts such as that Muhammad was an incestuous pedo) or converting away from Islam are criminal offenses, they do not all agree on which punishment is most proper under sharia.

After centuries of Islamic scholars and governments adding new rules and interpretations, sharia can be very complex, so I'll just draw out a few more points. I already touched on the religious persecution aspect above, and indeed, in Islam, the most praiseworthy calling is to kill non-Muslims or former Muslims who become Jewish or Christian. For example, Quran 9:111 says, "Indeed, Allah has bought from the believers their lives and their wealth, because the garden will be theirs, they will fight in the way of Allah and will kill and be killed.” And Quran 9:5 says, "So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them."

And since Muhammad married a six-year-old, there is no minimum age for a girl to be married in Islam. Technically, a grown Muslim man can licitly rape an infant, and countless children are given in marriage to Muslim men every year. The Western media often claims the cause is purely economic, but Christian and Jewish nations don't see a spate of child marriages whenever there's an economic crisis. This is an Islamic — a sharia — problem. Likewise, sharia sanctions forced marriage and conversion of a non-Muslim, including if the bride is kidnapped.

Sharia imposes penalties such as lashing fornicators, cutting off the hands of thieves, and stoning adulterers (which can also mean rape victims). In some countries like Iran, women can face arrest and even death for dressing "immodestly," which can mean something as basic as not wearing a hijab.
No man who says he wants to be "sharia-compliant" should be allowed to run for office, let alone hold office, in America.
