Declassified documents seem to show that a hacker stole hundreds of thousands of voters’ data on the eve of the 2020 election in Arizona, a hotspot of contested elections. Authorities later obtained a confession and yet did not prosecute, and one person allegedly destroyed files before an FBI raid.
This is a major story because Maricopa County, where all of this reportedly took place, was at the center of the 2020 election controversy, as the Trump administration and other Republicans at the state level accused Maricopa officials of either ignoring or covering up fraud. Democrats and some Republicans called Donald Trump and those who agreed with him conspiracy theorists, and ridiculed them for thinking our elections were anything but perfectly secure, even though Democrats have been cheating in elections for well over a century. This new reveal could be yet another vindication of “conspiracy theorists.”
The Epoch Times summed up the main facts of the new report:
633,000 Maricopa County voter files were illegally extracted around the 2020 election.
They held names, birth dates, and addresses—including nearly 1,000 for domestic violence victims, judges, and officers.
A former government worker admitted pulling 1–2 million files over years, then said he destroyed them just before an FBI raid.
Prosecutors declined to charge him. No evidence any votes were changed.

The one quote she particularly highlighted was that the FBI “confirmed that voter records were illegally extracted from the site and identified a suspect who admitted the crime … illegally scraped 633,000 voter files that included 930 that were sensitive, nonpublic data.”
And there was a list of the Arizona officials who failed to take action: “The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona, the Arizona Attorney General's Office, the Maricopa County, Arizona Attorney's Office, and the Pinal County, Arizona Attorney's Office were presented with the findings of this investigation. All declined to prosecute this matter.”
The reason this is so important, of course, is not only because voter data can facilitate identity theft, but because it can help facilitate fake voter registrations and fraudulently filled-out or manufactured ballots. In California, for instance, we have ample proof of a network to bribe homeless people into signing other people’s names to ballots. The fraud organizers tell the homeless people which names to sign.
