The Schumer shutdown has allowed Americans to see with startling clarity how Democrats love to inflict financial pain on American voters, even many of their own voters, while Republicans try to ameliorate the effects on citizens — particularly our truest patriots in uniform.
While the second-highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives called suffering a leverage and Democrats keep refusing to sacrifice their outrageous pork funding for foreigners, Republicans in the Trump administration are working to pay our troops and prioritize saving We the People‘s taxpayer money. Pick your side for 2026, my fellow Americans.
The Republican Party has a heck of a lot of problems, but it is not inherently and institutionally anti-American as the Democrat Party is (and always has been). From the Civil War to our own day, the Democrats persist in inflicting chaos, violence, and economic uncertainty on the country whenever they are not getting their way. They are the worst kind of elitists, who believe it is their right and privilege to harm the “peasants” because it is the obligation of everyone not as superior as they simply to follow their lead. The Founders would be disgusted.

But why talk in the abstract when we can give concrete examples? The Democrats, we must be clear, are dragging out the shutdown to obtain healthcare for illegal aliens and a lot of other nonsense in foreign countries, such as LGBTQ propaganda in the Balkans and desert locust relocation in Africa. This is all about their own money laundering. And, safe and secure in their own ill-gotten gains, Democrats see the financial worry of government employees and even welfare recipients (who generally vote Democrat) merely as “leverage.” Just ask Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.).
House Minority Whip Clark coolly declared that suffering is all part of her party’s political plan: “The shutdowns are terrible, and of course, there will be families that are going to suffer. We take that responsibility very seriously. But it is one of the few leverage times we have.” And yet House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) had the gall to pretend this week that this shutdown is about helping working-class Americans.

Contrast that to the actions of the Trump administration. They are right not to agree to cave to the Democrats, because our national debt just hit $38 trillion, and we absolutely cannot afford all of the outrageous pork the Democrats want. Nor is it at all justifiable constitutionally or practically to keep pouring money into goodies for hostile foreigners, especially illegal aliens.
First, in early October, Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth worked together to try and scrape up enough money to fund troops’ paychecks. Then, Trump proudly revealed that an anonymous billionaire friend of his had donated $130 million to ensure the troops would get paid. What a striking and glaring contrast there is between how Republicans are handling the shutdown and how Democrats are prolonging it.
