U.S. Youth Become More Pro-Life - Republicans, Take Note

A new poll shows that the majority of young Americans — 65% — supports some restrictions on abortion. If Republicans took this historic moment to seize the narrative and educate young people on how life, not abortion, is the compassionate and scientifically supported choice, we could make America pro-life again. And Republicans could also stop pretending killing babies is necessary to win elections.

Are young people zealously pro-life? Not for the most part. The majority agree with some legal abortion, but a new poll also shows they’re more receptive to the pro-life message than Democrats have tried to make us believe. Leftists once convinced Americans to go from being pro-life to accepting abortion, and it’s high time we flipped the script. As the landslide wins of pro-life Republican governors in 2022 proved, Republicans can be openly pro-life and still win elections, even with young voters.

How Americans could justify killing babies for a potential political gain is disturbing to me, but perhaps not everyone knows that science proved human life absolutely starts with conception and the Founding Fathers were anti-abortion. We can tell them. From LifeNews, Jan. 19:

According to a poll conducted by YouGov and Students for Life of America (SFLA), 65% of voters aged 18 to 42 supported some limits on abortion, and 54% believe human rights should start in the womb. Additionally, 75% “supported restrictions at or before viability, up 10% from 2023.” Kristan Hawkins, the president of SFLA, said the poll served to get a better understanding of what Gen Z and millennial voters want in terms of abortion legislation. “Changing hearts and minds on the human rights issue of abortion means being specific,” she said.

Young voters have been told, “Trust the science.” Science has confirmed that every human is a unique and separate living being from the moment of conception. If a candidate suggested legalizing some ax murders, we’d rightly think he was crazy. So why are the most innocent and vulnerable among us, babies, considered expendable? Why don’t we tell young Americans how science supports the pro-life argument?

Young Americans have been told abortion is the compassionate choice, but that’s an easily disproved lie. Surgical abortions kill babies in horrific and excruciating ways, while abortion pills essentially starve unborn babies to death. How is sucking out babies’ brains or tearing off their limbs a “compassionate” choice?

But abortion isn’t compassionate for mothers either. In September 2022, LifeNews cited evidence from “doctors, researchers, counselors and victims of sexual abuse” that abortion only adds to rape victims’ trauma. Women, especially teenagers, who get abortions are more at risk of suicide, PTSD, self-harm, and trauma, even for years after the abortion occurred. Most telling of all is the report from Human Life International in 2022 that “nearly 80% of rape victims who had an abortion later regretted their decision. By contrast, more than 80% of women who did not abort after rape were happy that they had continued the pregnancy.” Furthermore, abortion is never necessary to save the mother’s life.

This election year, Republicans need to act like the leaders they claim to want to be and take charge of the abortion conversation. Young Americans are increasingly inclined to support the right to life of innocent babies, and that’s a fact that we can and should capitalize on in 2024.
