REALITY CHECK: New Poll Shows Ted Cruz Comfortably Ahead of Beto O'Rourke, Of Course

Ted Cruz can relax.

Everyone loves an exciting race, and so there’s no surprise that media, even conservative media, have cast Ted Cruz’s Senate race against Beto O’Rourke in a competitive light. But a new poll shows a more expected result.

Sure, it’s not in the bag. There are signs that Beto can do better than [generic Democrat] might have been expected to perform going into this year. But as Senator Cruz has reminded people in his campaign ads and on Twitter, this is Texas. And Beto’s cookie-cutter liberal talking points just don’t sell too good down Texas way.

Which is what the latest poll from JMC Analytics found.

That’s a seven-point lead for Cruz. Moreover, it’s an improvement when compared with last week’s Quinnipiac poll that had Cruz ahead by only three.

The poll also surveyed popular opinion on Cruz…

… and O’Rourke.

Ted’s favorables and unfavorables are higher, as you’d expect for someone with dramatically higher name recognition and public track record.

The Hill noted that there is a slight fundraising gap in O’Rourke’s favor, but that too will probably be washed away as the year marches on.

Democrats have an unreasonably optimistic view of this race, and they are pouring money into it. It’s unreasonable because they are forgetting the one thing you should never forget in Texas: That you’re in Texas.

Beto O’Rourke’s anti-NRA, anti-gun, pro-impeachment views, and his opposition to conservative policy on immigration simply aren’t what Texans are looking for.
