Wendy Davis, Democrat long-shot for Texas governor, unleashed this bizarre tweet this afternoon.
It’s disturbing Greg Abbott won’t denounce a fringe group after meeting w/ its leader, who was arrested w/ explosives used in OKC bombing

So I asked the Abbott campaign about it.
They pointed me to this story in the San Antonio Express-News. That story is a hit piece written by Joshua Fecther, evidently based on opposition research that the Davis campaign supplied him.
The story opens with a dramatic photo of some militia members who have been patrolling the Texas-Mexico border, captioned to demonize the guns they are holding.
Photos showing dozens of members of the militia groups on the U.S.-Mexico border carrying semi-automatic rifles and wearing masks, camouflage and tactical gear provide one of the first glimpses into the group’s activities on the border.
Oooh, “semi-automatic rifles.” Be afraid, be very afraid. If you don’t know anything about firearms, anyway.
The story itself is about a campaign event at which Republican nominee Greg Abbott had a photo line, and a guy in the photo line turned out to be a militia guy, and he was later arrested on charges entirely unrelated to Abbott, his campaign, Second Amendment rights, or anything else. In fact, he has nothing at all to do with Abbott. He managed to get his photo taken with Abbott. That’s it.
The Democrats have done what they always do — jump to clownish overkill mode.
U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro of San Antonio, called on Abbott to denounce militia groups at the border. At the time, Abbott spokeswoman Lauren Bean called the move a “partisan political stunt.”
In a statement Friday, Castro said the incident “serves as a reminder that patrolling the border should be left to the authorities.”
“This is what happens when you don’t stand up for the rule of law, and allow felons to ‘patrol’ the border,” Castro said. “Greg Abbott should take this opportunity to denounce these groups.”
Hold on a minute — what’s that about the “rule of law,” Rep. Castro? The president that Castro, Davis and every other Democrat supports routinely flouts the rule of law. The border is in chaos because Barack Obama has no respect for the rule of law. When will Rep. Castro denounce that?
For Davis’ part, this latest desperate attack exposes once again that in an earlier, misguided and desperate attack, she tried to goad Abbott into publicly revealing the locations of ammonium nitrate around Texas.
Which would have been very helpful, to terrorists. That episode remains disturbing, not because anyone should link that to thinking that Davis supports terrorism. It’s just so gobsmackingly stupid, like this latest attack and just about everything that the Wendy Davis Democrats have said and done.
Update: This is a story about a candidate taking a photo with a stranger, writes Sarah Rumpf at Breitbart.
