Texas’ national treasure, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D), rose up in the House today to speak up for extending unemployment benefits.
“So we can’t be only about ourself [sic] in this holiday season, particularly as we recognize that the Pope being made Man of the Year has spoken to the world eloquently about this whole issue of the vulnerable,” Lee said. “So I ask this, Mr. Woodall, in the Rules Committee. Let’s put the Van Hollen, Lee, and Levin amendment on the floor tonight, tomorrow. Call us back, Mr. Boehner, call us back, Mr. Boehner. Let us vote to provide for unemployment insurance for working men and women – “
Unemployment benefits don’t go to working men and women, unless Lee intends to change the nature of unemployment benefits entirely.
