The hostile takeover of the GOP that Trump orchestrated in 2016 marks, perhaps, one of the five or so great political realignments in American history; the party is increasingly unrecognizable from what it was in the mid-aughts under the firm grasp of the George W. Bush brand of neoliberal neocons.

As Greg Byrnes covered yesterday, Liz Cheney, daughter, arguably the most famous neocon of them all, endorsed the Karamel-uh entity in a move that should come as a surprise to no one.
This metamorphosis into a full-on Democrat Party booster was a long time coming.

Former representative Liz Cheney, a lifelong Republican and the eldest daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, said yesterday evening at Duke University that not only will she be declining to vote for Trump come November, but she’ll be casting her ballot for Harris. In a conversation with students at the school, Cheney explained that it is simply not enough to not vote for the GOP candidate. “I don’t believe we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states,” she said. “As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this—and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
Whereas the Never Trump RINO is often lauded as a brave and stunning truth-teller standing up to the fascists or whatever, the reality is that this is a very comfortable and lucrative hustle for people like Liz Cheney, Chris Christie, Adam Kinzinger, et al. to transition into after being rejected by their own party.
They get to keep all of their old friends in the establishment; they get invited to all the great cocktail parties still; they get cushy positions at whatever think tank or corporate state media establishment will take them; none of their delusional predictions about the imminent demise of MAGA or hypocritical about-faces ever come back to haunt them because they’re simply memory-holed.
Becoming Benedict Arnold is not a bad life for these people.

For the record, here’s what Cheney was saying about Mamala last election cycle when she was still pretending to be a Republican:
As somebody who is a centrist and in one fell swoop here, he has put somebody on the ticket whose voting record in the Senate is to the left of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. So I think that, you know, the American people are gonna look at the substance of this. They’re gonna look at what she stood for in the past, they’re gonna look at what she said during the primary election, and it’s very clear she is a radical liberal.
