Politico: ‘Biden’s Got a Plan to Protect Science From Trump’

Politico is reporting that the Biden administration is erecting “tripwires” to protect the NIH from reform (or, preferably, dismemberment) on the assumption that Trump triumphantly returns to the Oval Office in 2024.

Via Politico (emphasis added):

The Biden administration is setting up new tripwires for Donald Trump at America’s premier health research agency to safeguard against political interference if Trump wins in November.

The White House fears Trump could try to advance an ideological agenda at the National Institutes of Health, like the ones he’s suggested on everything from vaccines to diversity policies.

In an effort to Trump-proof, NIH has designated an official to identify political meddling in the agency’s work and is tasking a soon-to-be-established scientific integrity council with reviewing those cases. The White House knows Trump could still cast those plans aside but is calculating that doing so will set off alarms with the media, Congress and the public. The Biden administration likely hopes GOP lawmakers, even those who think the NIH needs an overhaul, will temper Trump’s moves.

First of all, I only wish Trump were hardcore enough to truly #DraintheSwamp and flush the corrupt NIH down the toilet into the sewer of history. I don’t necessarily believe he’s that guy — he certainly hasn’t demonstrated that level of commitment to cleaning up the Public Health™ establishment and or anything like that in his last four years — but maybe, if he surrounds himself with the right people and makes the right cabinet appointments, that could be in the cards.

Secondly, undermining an elected president’s actions to purge institutions badly in need of reform if not outright condemnation is decidedly anti-democratic on its face — odd and incongruous for a media establishment that pearl-clutches nonstop about sacred Democracy™.

Continuing:

“Interfering and manipulating science to hit a partisan agenda is inappropriate and is what we’re working to wall against,” Lyric Jorgenson, NIH’s designated scientific integrity official, said in an interview. She added: The plan to protect the agency’s independence is critical because the public needs to be able to rely on NIH to “generate rigorous, trusted evidence to inform public health.”

Connoisseurs of government propaganda might recall when Fauci declared boldly on national television that “I am the science” and that, therefore, any attacks on him as an ethically challenged facilitator of mass murder via illicit gain-of-function research are, in fact, tantamount to attacks on science itself.

This Biden “protect The Science™ scheme is just more of the same. The question is: how many lobotomized liberals still buy it? And will it actually catalyze any of them on the fence to hit the polls in November?

Interestingly, Fauci go-between David Morens, as I covered recently, was peppered with surprisingly hostile questions by members of both political parties at a Congressional hearing. So it appears the partisan dam of protection for Fauci and Co. may be breaking.

Most important to emphasize for the absurd “protect The Science™” narrative, perhaps, is that science is not an institution. It’s a practice, a discipline, a method, a way of analyzing reality. Science cannot be protected, nor does it need to be. Unlike Anthony Fauci or any other member of the NIH, science cannot be prosecuted for malfeasance or have its credibility destroyed.
