VIDEO—Sen. Harry Reid Launches Racist Jokes Before Asian Audience

Since he's a Democrat, will Reid get away with his insults?

Daily Caller has a story on this remarkable video of Sen. Harry Reid speaking before the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce. In it, Sen. Reid engages in ethnic humor. First he jokes about Asians being smarter than everyone else — a racial stereotype, albeit a positive one. Later, he jokes that he “can’t keep his Wongs straight.” That joke has a bit more bite. Would Reid joke to a white audience that he can’t keep his Smiths straight? Is he suggesting that all Asians look alike?

I’m asking as the husband of a Japanese woman…

Sen. Reid has a history of making racial remarks, as when he noted that Barack Obama was a viable black presidential candidate because he is “clean and articulate.” He had to apologize directly to Obama for that one.

The Senator’s efforts did not help his chosen candidate for Nevada lieutenant governor. He sought the Asian Chamber’s endorsement for Democrat Lucy Flores. But the Chamber backed Republican Mark Hutchison instead.

More: This shouldn’t go without a mention. Democrats in Kentucky have been attacking Sen. Mitch McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao — because she is Asian.

And, during his first run for governor, Louisiana Democrats launched a series of racist attacks on Bobby Jindal by referring to his given name, Piyush.

More: Reid has a long history of making racist and, frankly, idiotic remarks. That very history prompts the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake to grant him “gaffe immunity.”

A Republican with a similar history — there aren’t any, by the way — would be driven from office.

I don't disagree with what you're saying. Personally, all that stuff means nothing to me, one way or the other.

But we're talking politics here. I can't disagree with immigration or welfare without getting lit up as a racist talking in "code." That's the issue. Libs can say anything. A woman review editor at Publisher's Weekly named Rose Fox Tweeted a lament her job made her read work by white men to no reaction. If I said that about blacks or gays I'd be fired.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said.

However, if a Republican had made exactly the same remarks, he'd have been hounded out of office.

I do believe Reid is one of those who is "appalled" at the name Washington REDSKINS and demands it be changed. Now, THAT is a hypocrite.

Who does he have to kill?

It'd pretty much have to be Barack Obama or Elizabeth Warren.

The issue to me isn't the jokes, it's the double standard. How many times have we seen a news headline along the lines of "Redneck uses Racial Slurs at or during Whatever." Pot, meet Kettle.

I hope you're not surprised at the double standard, the two sets of rules depending on the political persuasion of the individual in question.

Geez, had he been a republican, just half of what Barack's done would have sent the ministry of information (sometimes called the MSM) into paroxysms of pretend outrage, instead of the crickets we've grown accustomed to.

Harry Reid had a "mild" stroke in 2005, possibly another one in 2013 and who knows what in the interim.

Normally, that would be cause for concern & some leeway, but as obstructionist czar in the United States Senate, he is allowed none.

He needs to acknowledge his compromised brain and return quietly to Nevada, where he has plenty of fellow corrupt cronies to share stories with.

Don't you need Gray Matter in your skull to have a stroke?

You also need a heart to have a stroke. This guy has no heart and no brains. May be his "stroke" was a misdirected f@rt, he's full of them for sure!

I don't know, "I can't keep my Wongs straight" seems pretty tame to me. Getting all hot 'n bothered about mild racial or ethnic comments is what the other side, the Left does.

No, this is what the Left does:

"Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."

The Democrats' book of rules says that Reid's off-color jokes are racism.

"The Democrats' book of rules says that Reid's off-color jokes are racism."

Um, no. You misread the rule book. You missed an important qualifier. Here's the rule in full:

"Comments about race and ethnicity are proof positive of deep-seated racism when made by Republicans or other non-Democrats"

The Demoncrats also say that the Demoncrats don't have to live up to any rules except the ones set by Saul Alinsky.

Why do you ask questions when you already know the answer?

When Hillary Clinton was photographed doing a Nazi salute at her book signing on Martha's Vineyard yesterday, she chuckled and said it was just silly fun. Like Reid's racist comments, Clinton's actions won't garner any media scrutiny. http://bit.ly/1kT8d6G
