This. It’s just ridiculous. It’s also Mediaite vs. Mediaite.

Christopher began by asking Carney about a House Republican plan that would increase the nation’s borrowing limit and reopen government in exchange for changes to the Affordable Care Act, including a delay of the medical device tax.

“When I had a heart attack a few years ago, I was uninsured and I haven’t been able to get insurance ever since then,” Christopher began his first question. “Listening to all the pressure on the president to negotiate, some of it coming from inside this room, made me think: Is there a chance the president would be willing to delay Obamacare for a year if Republicans would agree to delay heart attacks for a year?”

Because Republicans control heart attacks? Does a serious person capable of actual thought even ask a question like this? Does a serious person take such a question seriously?

Carney replied that the White House believes that the ACA needs to be fully implemented. Christopher noted that he has been able to access the health care exchanges online.

“I was talking to my mom this morning,” Christopher continued, “and she asked me to ask you to please open the government back up again.”

“She’s really worried about her social security check,” he added. Christopher asked if former Obama advisor Steve Rattner was correct when he warned that October 23 was a “drop-dead date” at which point Social Security recipients may be negatively impacted by a post-default scenario.

Carney replied that default could potentially imperil “the obligations that the Congress has made and we have made to America’s seniors.”

“It crystallizes the fact that there are real people who depend on some basic things,” Carney said.

Too many Americans depend on the government for some basic things. It would help the nation in the long run if we reduced that dependence and the mentality that fosters it. As that would not help the Democrats, though, expect it to happen right after never.

Too many Americans depend on the government for some basic things.

A self-replicating dependency. The the rocket ride of increased health care costs has followed the rise in government provided health care.

Only in government programs have technological advances not reduced costs.

"Carney replied that the White House believes that the ACA needs to be fully implemented."

Instead of trying to defund Obamacare the Republicans should do this instead. Insist on fully implementing the WHOLE thing, as written. No delays, no waivers, no exceptions.

See how popular the law is then.

I don't see it as throwing down arms. I see it as using the enemy's own arms against him.

One thing that seems to be lost in the whole ACA debate is many states provided private insurance options for persons with pre-existing conditions BEFORE ACA. For example, in Texas there was a high-risk pool that offered private insurance at no more than 25% higher premiums than for those without pre-conditions. Texas did this without requiring everyone to buy insurance and without requiring employers to provide it. In other words, Texas helped those in need without punishing others.

Sounds like sophomoric rantings to me..

The GOP Congress has given it's self - a self inflicted wound, and backed it's self into the corner.

As a result it is a very dangerous animal that is only looking out after it's OWN best interests right now and not the best interests of the nation.

Just like Obama. No sane person believes that the ACA is in this country's best interests.
