So, the President of the United States’ official Twitter feed is playing around with blood. On March 20, Yoko Ono tweeted a photo of John Lennon’s bloody glasses. The official Barack Obama Twitter feed later re-tweeted the photo.
Despite its legal status as a non-partisan group, Organizing for Action operates the president’s partisan Twitter feed.
Ono’s tweet insists that more than one million people in the US have been killed “by guns” since Lennon’s murder in 1980. Guns, being inanimate objects, have not killed anyone during that time without some human intervention, either accidental or purposeful. Ono also make no distinctions between those killed in acts of murder or those killed by police while committing crimes, or those who were killed by people acting in self-defense.
ABC News’ story on the tweet links the tweet to the failure of the “assault” weapons ban in Congress this week. That makes little factual sense, as Lennon was not killed using an “assault” weapon. Mark David Chapman killed Lennon with a .38 Special, a pistol which would not have been banned under Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s “assault” weapons ban.
If Ono and Obama are really interested in preventing senseless killings, they could tweet a photo of an aborted baby. There have been 50 million of those since 1972′s Roe v Wade decision.
