Sooper Mexican is following the breaking story of the former Los Angeles police officer who has gone rogue, allegedly shooting three officers and hunting others and their families after he was fired from the police force.
The suspect, Chris Dorner, posted a manifesto on the web, but media are ignoring some of its key passages. Dorner’s rant begins with an attempt to justify his crimes, and then reveals a man steeped in typical Think Progress, Media Matters style leftist thinking.
He supports strict gun control:

Sen. Feinstein, you are doing the right thing in leading the re-institution of a national AWB. Never again should any public official state that their prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Dorner also lamented the fact that George Zimmerman was not murdered by Trayvon Martin. NBC injected race into that story, and may have helped drive a disgraced cop over the edge.
It’s pretty clear that Dorner is disturbed. It’s also pretty clear that the media and left have fueled his madness. His writing reads like a regurgitation of media narratives he could pick up on any mainstream leftist web site or media outlet. The same media are now censoring his manifesto. This comes just a day after news broke that another leftist gunman used leftwing propaganda to launch an armed attack on the conservative Family Research Council. Most media have ignored that angle, too.
A couple of days before that, a mass killer confessed to being taught to hate white people in college. That hasn’t become a media narrative, either.
If there’s no Tea Party angle and the media can’t make one up, they’re just not interested in reporting all of the facts.
Update: KTLA posted most, but not all, of Dorner’s manifesto. They left out all the parts in which he espouses leftist and anti-gun views.

The custom of not writing out any Divine titles in full has nothing to do with taking the Name in vain (which where I come from refers to swearing falsely). Nothing was stolen, and it appeared to me to be an ambush. I don’t know any more on the captain other than that he was a “former” captain. I wonder if this guy is responsible for that?

I heard on the news earlier tonight that the woman’s father represented Dorner at whatever hearing resulted in his termination from LAPD.
They also reported that Dorner had left a note for her father to the effect that “I’m never going to have a chance to have a family so I wanted to destroy yours.”

I was just skimming over this guys manifesto. He describes cops (i.e. the government) as racists, petty, cowardly sadists that protect their own and behave like an occupying force against the citizens they’re supposed to protect. He complains they are lawless and that he’s bringing to them the only justice they would ever see.

My Army reserve outfit was made of of almost all cops (in their civilian jobs). Everything from federal marshals to rookie LA Sheriff deputies.

Not to mention HALF our small police force gunned down in one incident by a NAKED GUY, who got one of THEIR weapons off them…
And the SWAT Team that unleashed 95 shots at a kid with an airsoft, striking HIM six times, area homes 40+ when they stopped counting.
All this IN or WITHIN 10 miles of my neighborhood.

Romney was far more moderate than many of us really wanted, but let’s be honest, Huntsman was the man who opened his primary campaign by declaring that he didn’t need any Republicans because the moderate Independent vote would be enough. Compared to him, Romney would have qualified as at least center right.
Santorum could have beat Obama – Christie would have backed his fellow paisan, as would a lot of fellow catholic ethnics in the NE and rust belt.
Gingrich could have won too – he would have got hispanics in state “A” and blacks in state “B” with different speeches to different crowds.
Cain could have won by taking country blacks in FL and VA and made it close in couple more.
Perry – would have been a 48-hour wait for concession, but still could have won.
If the goal was to get a Republican – any Republican – elected no matter how bad his policies and priorities are, then you might be right. Huntsman may have been better. Saying this guy is a closet liberal because this rant says so is a bit of a stretch. Obama, encourages Hilary to run in 2016, and says nice things about Biden, but he also says he didn’t vote for Obama because his favored candidate, Huntsman, wasn’t nominated. He also praises the elder George Bush, Colin Powell, Chris Christie (whom he tries to encourage, gently, to lose weight), and so forth. By the time he’s praising Christoph Waltz and saying he liked Inglorious Basterds, praising Ellen DeGeneres, and telling you Charlie Sheen is cool, you know he’s completely nuts. He even laments that he’s going to miss the next season of The Walking Dead and the third Hangover movie.
At some point, you have to just stand back and say “This guy’s nuts, and nothing he says has any relevance.” One whole paragraph of his rant is about an injustice done to him in grade school, when he attacked a kid who called him the n-word. The way he tells it, himself, you think he was out of line and should have been punished, but he is indignant, because he was justly retaliating against someone who called him that. I’ll agree that they could have included some things that they left out of his rant, but the damn thing is incredibly long. He praises numerous friends and mentors from his life and tells you everything from his musical tastes to giving a shout-out to local shock jocks. Something had to be edited out, actually a lot had to be edited out. A liberal could complain that his praise of Chris Christie and Colin Powell wasn’t included, because the media are conservative…and you guys didn’t mention this either, did you?

I agree that the guy is totally nuts and that trying to blame his motives on liberalism would be almost as retarded as when the left tried so very hard to blame Sarah Palin’s ads for the shooting in Arizona. Nevertheless, they did do that and you know to an absolute certainty that had he been a “tea partier” who had written a long screed in favor of gun rights and against Obama that that would be the ONLY news story right now. What we’ve witnessed in the last several years is a virtual media coup, and it’s been so very easy. Just don’t report whatever doesn’t fit the narrative, extensively cover anything that does, and occasionally (like MSNBC) have your editors take a few liberties with the truth.
I’ll agree that if he’d been unabashed in his conservatism, it’d be trumpeted in the media. What I’m saying is that he mentioned some liberals and some conservatives that he liked or disliked. Everyone’s trumpeting the fact that he praises Piers Morgan, but somehow the fact that he ripped Fareed Zacharia just before that is not mentioned. He wants the guy deported forthwith. I think most conservatives would disagree with both, and most liberals would like both of them.
The “manifesto” which is really more of a rant, sounds like it was written by a reasonably intelligent man with a typical education, but probably little affinity for reading or writing in anything other than a professional sense. It’s rambling and emotional, wanders all over the map, and is pretty poorly organized. He spends a lot of time discussing entertainment, politics, things that happened to him which he felt were injustices, etc., all at great length and in considerable detail, including names of individuals and often ranks, procedures, protocols, and so forth. He also includes a serious number of threats, and recounts how he’s going to use unconventional warfare to torment the LAPD for as long as he can.
What I’m saying is that if you took even the small portions that were unabashedly liberal and reversed them in all the relevant ways, that would be the big story right now. If he’d bashed Obama and Feinstein and Hillary, and especially gun control, then lashed out at a few Republicans or other figures on the right, everybody would be talking about what a “crazy right winger” he was and crawling over eachother to blame Rush Limbaugh or the Republican party. They sure as hell wouldn’t edit it out. Remember that when that the fact the Arizona shooter was a Democrat didn’t make a damn bit of difference to them when they were trying to tie him to the tea party. We don’t necessarily need to do to them the same dishonest things they’d do to us, but we do need to call out the hypocisy, maybe repeatedly ask why these passages have been censored and bring this guy up every time they try to pull a Loughner on us.
At some point, you have to just stand back and say “This guy’s nuts, and nothing he says has any relevance.”

I don’t know exactly what you’re referring to when you mention that I should squirm because of this guy. I live in LA, but I’m not particularly worried about him…just one more nut with guns. Hopefully they’ll catch him before he kills someone else. You seem to be implying I’m some sort of “operative” of the vast left wing conspiracy or something…unfortunately, I’m really more of a contrarian conservative, in that I tend to listen to what people say, and then think about it, and form an opinion. My opinion this time is that while this guy does have some liberal positions, he’s more nuanced and complex than that, and trying to fit him into a box labelled “liberal” is more or less futile.
As to what I’m trying to do, whether you think it’s transparent or not, let me tell you. I’m very concerned that we *not* adopt the tactics of the left, and try and shoehorn the facts into whatever “narrative” we wish to bullshit the public with. I’d prefer to be in the party that actually says things that have something to do, anything, with the truth, as opposed to the guys who just make crap up to suit whatever point they’re trying to make. So, for instance, the guy who tried to shoot up the Family Research Council, he’s a liberal. Said so quite proudly, explicitly, when he pled guilty the other day. Good enough for me, and I’m so far annoyed to say the least that his guilty plea hasn’t gotten much attention. Then again, he didn’t kill anyone (thanks to the bravery of that security guy, who has balls of steel as far as I’m concerned) and so the story isn’t as high-profile.
Go and read through Dorner’s “manifesto”, the unexpurgated version. You can skip the part where he praises his high school football coach et al, but the rest of it is very long and involved. If you can come away from that saying the guy’s a liberal, that’s fine; I’m afraid I disagree with you. If you read it carefully, I think you’ll conclude that the guy’s a) very intelligent, if not particularly articulate in the written form; b) narcissistic to the point of ridiculousness; and c) carrying grudges and resentment that go back to his childhood.

Redaction, done correctly, is not a problem. You just black out the portions to be redacted, and everybody knows you did it, and why, and there is no deception.
What the media has done is intentionally deceptive. They redacted information which was harmful to nobody (except their cause, of course) and they hid the fact that they redacted it.
