One month ago today, terrorists armed with heavy weapons stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. In a lightning-fast coordinated attack, the terrorists quickly overran the paltry and mostly locally hired security. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other U.S. State Department security officials died in the assault.
Though the U.S. intelligence community now says that it recognized the assault in Benghazi as a terrorist attack from the beginning, the Obama administration told the public a different story. The Obama administration told the American people that the 9-11-12 attack was not a pre-planned terrorist assault, but a reaction to an obscure video on YouTube said to be offensive to Muslims. Ben Howe captured the spin timeline in this video.
The Benghazi assault on 9-11-12, the eleventh anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks on the United States that killed nearly 3,000 and plunged the world into war, was never about a video. That fact was so obvious that on the night of the attack and on the day afterward, a new Twitter hashtag appeared: #Itsnotaboutafilm.
In past instances when the United States came under terrorist attack, Republican and Democratic administrations quickly recognized the attacks for what they were and vowed to strike back and punish those responsible. September 11, 2001, was followed within a month by Operation Enduring Freedom, the invasion of Afghanistan to drive al-Qaeda from its strongholds there. Though the aftermath in Afghanistan has been bloody, the operation to deprive al-Qaeda of its Afghan bases has largely succeeded. That doesn’t mean that al-Qaeda is dead; far from it. The terrorist group has proven itself adaptable and flexible even after the killing of its leader. It changes leaders, it changes its name, it changes its base of operations, but al-Qaeda doesn’t change its purpose, which is to attack the United States however and whenever it can and without regard for which party happen to occupy the White House. Benghazi must be seen in that context.
But it wasn’t, at least not by the Obama administration. Rather than recognize the assault in Libya for what it was, President Obama both personally and through his spokesman, through Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and through U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice blamed a video. Though they pledged to investigate the attack, they have treated Benghazi as a criminal act rather than the act of war that it was. They sent the FBI to determine the facts, but the FBI was not even able to access the sacked compound until more than three weeks after the attack. The United States has not conducted a single strike by air or land or sea to punish the terrorists who killed those four Americans. The only person punished in connection with Benghazi so far is the man who allegedly made the video that the administration falsely blamed for inciting the attack.
Instead of getting justice against the terrorists, the Obama administration launched what amounts to a disinformation campaign, an Operation Infinite Spin, against the American people. Operation Infinite Spin is an attack on common sense and on Americans’ free speech rights. The Obama administration’s instincts were to blame America first and, apparently, to give the terrorists ample time to get away.
Why? Who from within the administration launched Operation Infinite Spin to blame a movie when both the date and the evidence pointed directly at terrorism? What did they hope to accomplish? How did the president and his close associates learn of the YouTube video? Who made the decision to blame it for a terrorist attack? Why did the State Department consistently refuse field requests to beef up security in Libya, to the point that security specialists Lt. Col. Andrew Wood and Eric Nordstrom both realized that they were fighting a losing battle against, as Nordstrom described it, “the Taliban inside the walls.”
One month after the attack in Benghazi, Americans from the mother of one of the slain to the average man on the street are still awaiting and still demanding answers. Will we ever get them?
Forty-five months after the inauguration even the progressive lap dog media are awakening to the fact that there’s been nothing but disinformation and infinite spin from this so-called administration.
A few points worth mentioning are:
The Obama regime is unlike any other, simply because it is led by a radical leftist, who happens to also be an Islamist. A deadly combination. As such, they are always operating from an anti-American construct.
Moreover, it has been proven, they lie on a regular basis, about this or that. In addition, there is another possibility, as to why they are doubling down on their nonsensical explanation – ‘the video made them do it’.
What if Obama and surrogates were in league with a weapons smuggling operation gone awry? In other words, isn’t it plausible that Stevens was hardly your average diplo, but more likely a CIA middleman, facilitating Libyan arms caches for the Syrian opposition? And, how many know that this Syrian opposition is indeed led by the Muslim Brotherhood Mafia (the same Islamists Obama championed, to ensure Mubarak’s ouster), as well as AlQaeda elements?
Now, how would it look, fresh off the campaign trial, telling his audiences that AlQaeda is on the run because Osama is dead, only to find out that his administration is arming AlQaeda? Far fetched? Hardly.

It was an allusion to Operation Infinite Freedom being changed to Operation Enduring Freedom at the beginning of the Afghanistan War to avoid offending Muslims. I may have been too subtle there.

The Obama administration heard about the video from the news reports from Egypt. In Cairo, the Salafi party had broadcasted the video trailer in the morning of 9-11 in order to whip up a mob. The US Embassy in Cairo heard about the broadcast and issued a statement condemning the video later that same morning. The Cairo protests began that afternoon and were, at least in part, about the video.
In Benghazi there was no video protest. There was only a pre-planned attack by Al Qaeda. The Obama administration, most likely in a desperate panic to shift blame, purposely conflated the two separate protests, Cairo & Benghazi, and blamed the video.

The Cairo protest/attack certainly was pre-planned. The video was involved only so far as a tool to whip up a crowd for the news cameras. Similarly, the Sept. 14 attack on the US embassy in Tunisia was carried out by a local Al Qaeda affiliate.
Anybody who says these attacks are all about the video, or that they are a coincidence and not part of a co-ordinated strategy is either a fool or a liar.
Just one nit. Cairo and Benghazi were not “two separate protests.” Benghazi was an attack, not a protest. Even Cairo could be considered an attack, as people scaled the embassy walls and tore down the American flag.
Given the warning posted here on 9-10, Cairo should be considered an attack.

When you have Sec. Napolitano focusing administration efforts at finding and focusing on “extremism” within the US population, this is what happens.

Perhaps I have a different definition of “spin”. Spin is taking facts and interpreting them in a manner most favorable to one political side.
Outright lies are not spin, they are not attached to facts and the problem with them is not in the interpretation of facts, it is in the obliteration of facts and evidence.

Isn’t David Petraeus part of the intelligence community? Being as how he is the head of the CIA, it’s director, I would think he would be considered to be part of the intelligence community. At least 3 days after the attack CIA Director Petraeus was claiming the attack was of the video, by the video and for the video, and this was before the House Intelligence Committee no less.
Why does Petraeus always seem to get a free pass on so many other things and now this? One would think he was Mohammad to some people.
Yet a congressional source told Fox News that CIA Director David Petraeus, during a briefing with members of the House Intelligence Committee three days after the attack, also espoused the view that Benghazi was an out-of-control demonstration prompted by the YouTube video. According to the source, this was “shocking” to some members who were present and saw the same intelligence pointing toward a terrorist attack.
And yet there were so-called conservatives seriously suggesting this vile thing for the VP slot.

Kevin DuJan over at Hillbuzz.org has a theory (or perhaps insider knowledge) that the plan was for the ambassador and possibly others to be kidnapped and Barry would ultimately exchange the blind sheik for the prisoners, thereby proving what a great foreign policy expert and negotiator he was, arranging for the prisoner exchange just in time for the debate on foreign policy. Since his weak spot was economics and his dismal domestic record, this would serve to even the score and solidify his claim that he kept America safe. The security team was removed one month before the attacks and the video has been proven to be a false flag, so something was being set up. Never let a crisis go to waste and all that jazz…even if a crisis has to be created. Unfortunately, it all went awry with a tragic end result. DuJan’s theory, if it’s only a theory, now seems more plausible than I’d originally thought as Morsi came out right after the attacks and demanded the release of the sheik. Perhaps even he had realized the “plan” had collapsed.
It’s very clear why this president & his underlings lied about Benghazi for 2 straight weeks & did everything in their dissembling power to deflect the knowledge that it was what it was.
First of all, Obama’s claim to foreign policy expertise rests on the ridiculous notion that taking out Osama and, consequently, hobbling if not crippling Al Qaeda are proof of his superior wisdom. It just wouldn’t work to have him proved dead wrong on that score. (never mind that accounts of SEALS actually present refute the administration’s story of how the raid on the compound went down.)
Secondly, the raid on the hugely under-protected Benghazi consulate/compound happened less than 2 months before a US election. Acknowledging that it was what it was, a full blown “terrorist” attack by AQ affiliated groups, and then pursuing and avenging the attack would demolish Obama’s foreign policy claim to personally diminishing Al Qaeda, not to mention distract from all the planned rallies, the hot air and fundraisers.
To have this situation (or any crisis for that matter) subject to the personal political whims and ambitions of charlatans in the federal government is beyond beyond appalling.

Having watched what happened with Israel and the so-called peace process, this kind of governmental behavior is all too familiar. Blatant attacks get immediately minimized and explained and the “responsible” position is to cool off both sides by “admitting” a degree of culpability on behalf of the victimized country. The goal of the government seems to be a lessoning of its responsibilities while maintaining its level of authority with its own citizens.
It seems shocking at first but since we can depend on the continuance of atrocity by the Islamic side the government can gradually make its point that it can not be expected to assume responsibility as the problem is just too vast and “complicated” and what is needed is a “substantive” political solution which the “irresponsible,primitive and xenophobic” among us label “appeasement”. Obama made the mistake of allowing this too close to an election but if he had been gradually lowering our expectations of defense by our government this would have been considered a routine non-issue during the election cycle.
