Is This the Stupidest Lie Ever Told by an Adult?
The report that triggered this characterization by bgates is this one in something called Shine:

This is quite possibly the stupidest lie I have ever heard from an adult person.
Should we offer to feature an interview by the the first Obama pen pal recipient to come forward with one of those checks?
The madness of today is so overwhelming one does not even know where to begin to confront it.
Surely he is referring to the $500 Million check he sent off to Solyndra after he got that heartfelt plea from George Kaiser.
Then again it may have been the check he sent to Fisker, SEIU, The Tides foundation or GE…
I was gonna guess that he made the check out personally to the state registrar of Hawaii…

Actually, he apparently does write actual letters. One woman mentioned in the article was shown holding her letter up for a photo. She treasured it, but eventually sold it for $7,000 to pay off medical debts and help with a down payment for a home, if I recall correctly. According to the article, Reagan once wrote a woman a check and she was on the news showing off her framed check. Reagan sat down and sent her another check, begging her to cash it instead of framing it!
The only lie stupider is Obama saying he ‘sleeps at night’ instead of during the day, in a bed instead of the crypt he occupies daily along side other Socialist, bloodsucking vampires.

Whoever thinks that’s the stupidest lie they ever heard hasn’t been around much. If the Prez wanted to keep it quiet there is any number of ways a check could’ve and probably would’ve been sent without identifying who it was – any number of charities or orgs or friends or agencies.
There are things to take Obama to task for – this isn’t one of them.

The point and the larger principle is this: if you are going to attack Obama as being wrong 100% of the time and in all things, we will lose this election as the true arguments will be lost amongst the simple Obama-hatred and our credibility will be non-existent and cries of ‘wolf’ will undo us.

When someone says the check is in the mail they DO NOT mean paypal or any other electronic funds transfer for two very simple reasons;
1) The transfer is instantaneous therefore the receiver won’t be asking about payment, and
2) there is an instant receipt sent to both sender and receiver at the time of transaction.
Therefore, when someone says the Check is in the mail, they mean that the written instrument for transfer of funds has been entrusted to the United States Postal Service. LITERALLY!

Reading comprehension is a good thing. One using the moniker of Jane Air, an obvious play on Jane Eyre, should know.
The phrase “included a check” clearly indicates that he’s enclosing the check in the same envelope as the letter. There’s no other plausible reading of that phrase. It doesn’t say he “sends it off for someone else to add a check,” it’s a personal statement: “He’s even… included a check.”
In short, the story is obviously claiming that Barack H. Obama is sticking the check inside each envelope with His Own Presidential Hands… therefore, one of three things is being described as happening, if we take the story at face value for the sake of the argument:
1) He’s got a stack of checks sitting by his bedside in various amounts, from various agencies or friends, with the “Pay to the order of” and date lines blank, which he then fills out and puts the check in.
2) He’s holding onto some letters until he gets a check from an agency or friend, perhaps several months later, given how slowly government works. If these people truly are in need, that delay would be unconscionable.
3) He’s writing the checks himself and sticking them in the envelopes.
Since #3 is by far the most plausible, Mrs. Feldman’s original characterization is correct… the story is claiming that Obama is putting his own checks in the envelopes, which is an absolutely ludicrous lie.

If Obama wanted to keep it quiet, he could’ve started by keeping his own mouth shut. When a Republican says something like this, an army of media types will descend to investigate. He knows that will never happen to him so he can say anything.
At first, I kind of sided with Jane. But the whole quote has to be taken for there to be any context:

Taking the two sentences together, it’s almost impossible to conclude it means anything other than sometimes, when he writes back he includes a check.
Having said that, it’s not a direct quote. It’s paraphrased and then has a direct quote tacked onto the end. It leaves what the President actually DOES open to interpretation.

He could be saying he shouldn’t be advertising that he writes back.

There’s also the point that we all know that Obama is one of the biggest egos in existence today.
Now, if he was really doing this for his entire Presidency, why haven’t we heard about it before from strategic “leaks” in order to make him look good?

What is at stake here is more than just a minor lie in a sea of Major Lies.
This goes to the core of Obama’s character and his connection with “the masses.” (Keep in mind his brother living in a hut in Africa on $6 a week who receives not a bit of help from Obama.)
The paraphrase and quote are intended to say, “Obama isn’t the aloof cold uncaring person he’s portrayed to be. He is very kind and caring, but he doesn’t want to make a big deal of it. He does so secretly!”
And that portrayal is a LIE! A BIG Lie!
Okay, you are in the distinct minority here. Some of the criticism has been vicious. I will offer a better criticism (I hope), by explaining the logic further.
The reason it seems such an obvious lie, is manifold.
1) Obama is a purely political creature. Everything he says and does is first and almost totally political. He is running for re-election. Always remember that, and many of the things he does become obvious.
2) “The dog didn’t bark.” From Sherlock Holmes. It’s not what happened. It’s what didn’t happen. If he had done these things, the people who received these things are his fans. There is a cult-like belief in him. They would have extolled his virtues, even if he had abjured them not to. The fawning Press would have been all over it. The first time we hear of it comes from the compliant Media asking him about it.
If they had had evidence, they would have cited it in the question. “We have this information. Would you care to comment?” They cited no evidence. They proffered no instances. They are inventing this story. I bet Obama now wishes he really had done this the whole time. I doubt such would ever occur to him.
This is more campaign BS. It reminds me of the lies told by a child. A reasoning adult sees right through them. The thing is, most adults will not see the obvious lie here. Obama knows this. He doesn’t need to fool all of them, just enough of them. And there are enough. They just need an excuse to vote for him. Not a reason, an excuse. Despite all the evidence of how bad he is as President, the disaffected just need an excuse to rally and vote for him again, anything to salve their egos. This is for his base. It does not matter that it is not true. Excuses never are. Reasons are. Excuses aren’t.

In the physical version of the Washington Post, there was a photo of a woman holding up a hand-written note of about two sentences signed by Obama. Federal law requires them to deliver all deliverable mail. They know where the White House is, the letters are addressed to the White House, and there is sufficient postage on them, so they have to deliver them, by law.

Behind the counter is a framed (framed!) check written by none other than Hillary Clinton from 1993 with her name and her husband Bill’s name and the address printed on the check : 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.
That’s 18 years and they never cashed the check.

Having cleared out the birth certificate story and the Muslim faith stories, Obama’s just giving nuts something else to gnaw on for months: Once a check written by Obama shows up, there’ll be endless rounds of debate about the genuineness of the negotiation marks on the check and the actuality of the gift. “Where’s the recipient’s bank account record showing the deposit? This isn’t how Bank of America marks their negotiated checks. Why only a digital image–why can’t we see the original check?” That’s his purpose. He’s probably written one. ONE. And now he’ll get the subset dedicated to believing nothing is what it appears to be, looking to find that what that one appears to be isn’t.

The Washington Post reports today there’s a book out re 10 of those letters, which the author of the piece found less than fabulous. One of the recipients sold the sympathy note for $7,000 because they really needed the money. No mention of any checks though.

This Jane Air sure is persistent. It’s her original point that tells us who she is: “There are things to take Obama to task for – this isn’t one of them.”

The Establishmenters are eager to distance themselves from conservatives (by means of a few disdainful kicks) to get praise from media gatekeepers, as John McCain always does.

A paper bag can beat Obama in 2012, so it behooves us to get the most conservative candidate on the ballot that we can, just to get a handle on this horrid spending and debt spiral. Establishmenters see this, and they see a chance for big power and cushy jobs falling out of their hands.
Establishmenters pay lip service to “crisis”, but they really just want to run O-care themselves. (You guys should read that thing about “Clark Clifford Republicans” at AmSpec – it’s on-line.)
We conservatives want a small Federal government, not a fancy house in Montgomery County with lots of party invites. We want to do away with the EPA – let there only be environmental impact statements made to state governments. And we want to deep six Labor, Commerce, Agriculture, HHS, and HUD.
But first we want the Department of Education gone. American public ed.’s gone down and down since Carter created it. Democrats broke public ed. by using teachers’s unions as a slush fund – public funds to you, political contributions back to us. Establishmenters are too cowardly to fight this, because the press might label them as anti-teacher.
Romney ain’t getting the nomination, Jane. Like Mark Levin says, you Establishmenters try to keep us from saving the Republic, and we’re gonna kick your a**es, just like we’ll do to the Dems in 2012.

I want you guys to know that last week I sent a check to http://www.rockofafrica.org/ to help them with their charitable works. Draw your own conclusions about this, but hopefully the chief amongst them is that retlaw sure is a swell guy.

But I think everybody can agree to my original point – it’s just tacky to crow over sending off a little check. Only those who rarely or never send out such checks would think to boast about it.
Just as soon as someone makes it a campaign issue, there will be lots of small checks revealed that back up this scam.
So what if Obama sent off 10, 20 or 1000 hundred dollar checks to various idiots. Many people with his net worth send off 10,000$ checks in a day, not over 3 years.
I have no net worth at all, and provide support to a disabled veteran, his unemployed wife and their child. They have become good friends of mine. The IRS was kind enough to inform me that none of the money I spend putting a roof over their heads was deductible.
So what. I am not doing it for political gain. I am not doing it for my soul. I am doing it because I can.
If Obama did such a thing, it would be worthy, only so long as he didn’t use it as part of his political image. So long as he uses such a thing as image, we can say, of course, who wouldn’t spend 10,000$ over 3 years to control 3.2 Trillion every year? If he wants to be moral and austere, then he should pay back the millions spent sending his wife on vacations, for a start.
Even if he was a good man, especially if he was a good man, that would not give him authority or justification to rob me under color of authority.
Look at the birth certificate. He had no birth certificate. No birth certificate existed. He made the crisis, intending to get people to stake their credibility, then he had a long form birth cert released, the very document that we were told didn’t exist. All that foolishness was rope-a-dope, intended to distract from the fact that all his document history was hidden.
So we don’t know if he was adopted in Indonesia was hidden.
We don’t know if his actual father was Frank Marshall Davis, a communist and a child molester.
We know nothing about him except that he has put us over 4 trillion dollars in debt in 3 years. And in doing so, that 4 trillion went to??? What share was skimmed and scammed? We don’t know, except for the rare exception of Solyandra and Fisker, less than one thousandth part of the colossal con game.
So don’t nibble on the soft and easy bait that he offers. If he was a liar, a crook, and a traitor, would you try to score debate points over such a person while he was driving you to where you could be robbed and murdered? Or would you lock the door and keep such a person far away from the levers of power? If stuck with him driving, would you not get in the car, keeping as far as possible from giving him any hold over you?
After he is removed from office, we can then begin the slow process of investigation and impeachment of every single one of his appointees, and investigation and removal for cause of every single person hired by the government during his tenure. Further, we need to take down every single bit of legislation that he signed.
Remember, votes will be manufactured wholesale this time. The Dept of Justice will not be a threat to the criminals, but rather, a co conspirator. I will be very very happy if we can reverse this horror without very much blood.

For DonM and Miss Marple’s “rope-a-dope” and “trap” theories to be true, this would have to ALREADY HAVE TAKEN PLACE, because no matter how Obama dates the check, it’ll be stamped with the current date when it’s cashed.
And we’d almost certainly have heard about White House aides leading people to banks and Obama checks, just as we’d have heard about an unsupervised check sold to a collector.
It’s no trap, it’s just one of Obama’s throw-away lies, and an uglier (and more stupid, the whole point of this post)one than usual, since he’s bragging about a charitable nature he lacks. The Left doesn’t value truth.
