Tool Watch: ‘Occupy Wall Street’ Drones Mindlessly Repeat Whatever Frances Fox Piven Says
I wonder, do these Occupiers realize that they’re now forces for rolling back the clock on history? They’re supposed to be “progressives,” right? But their lack of leadership and goals, coupled with an adolescent mindset, are producing a kind of neo-anarchy on the greens. The only thing they’re missing is a peasant named Dennis railing at the king. The inevitable raids on their stuff by homeless addicts vomiting their way across the makeshift camps has already given rise to a kind of Occupy camp security, the most basic duty of a government. And note, one that isn’t being performed well on our border, but the Occupiers don’t care about that.
Next will come a kind of feudalism, as various Occupation (without vocation) voices vie for power and control and minions form factions. And after that, the revolution will become just another institution. That’s the arc of history, being played out by college students who probably don’t even know enough history to be able to grasp the irony of it all.
Until the Occupiers vault from their primitive state to a Leninist oligarchy (a process which should take another week or so), supposing they don’t just dissolve once they realize that camping out in urban parks paid for by others is no way to go through life or feed yourself, let’s enjoy their principled devotion to Luddism. The Occupiers apparently don’t like modern sound amplification equipment. Maybe because they’re taking a principled stand against the corporations that manufacture speakers and wire. Maybe it’s because they’re objecting to the non-green sources of electricity that such equipment demands. Maybe they’re still mad at Bob Dylan’s Woodstock set. Or maybe it’s because they couldn’t get their billionaire backers to spring for the speaker rental fees and power lines. Who knows, and who cares, really? When the attitude and the moment produce an anvil chorus of Commies cheerfully, mindlessly aping whatever an aging radical hippie professor says to them, it’s gold. It’s also a mild form of brainwashing, which uses the pressure of the group and chant to create and enforce conformity.
Am I wrong to hope against hope that the Bad Lip Readers get ahold of this asap?

Perhaps not all of them are “Drones”? http://youtu.be/6yrT-0Xbrn4
Not all, but clips like this certainly betray quite a few of them. To be fair, the motivations behind the Occupy and Tea Party movements seem to be very similar; revulsion at the bailouts and high levels of spending that overwhelmingly favor public officials and their cronies while leaving out everyone else. The differences have more to do with the response; reduce the power of government or take over the powers of government and put them to “better” use. The former means insisting on a more informed public that holds its elected officials accountable for their abuses of the consent of the governed. The latter involves assembling fairly large “armies” to do the grunt work of hijacking the “machine”. That will necessarily mean the assembly of large numbers of non-thinking people who mindlessly take orders; it means “drones”. The few critical thinkers in their midst will be tolerated and largely ignored.
These people are beyond pathetic.
Let’s buy them all a ticket to the commi country of there own choice. After a year or five it will be Interesting to see if they still hold the same ideals. I bet, like Oswald, reality is a bitch!
Is that Russell Simmons standing next to her?
Gosh… folk who still can’t accept Bob Dylan goin’ electric!
You have got to give these guys credit. Remember what Nancy Pelosi’s immortal observation about the Tea Party? The then-Speaker opined “These people don’t even LOOK like protestors!” Now we have protestors that look like they were sent over by Central Casting. It’s like the 1960′s version of all the usual background character from a 1930′s Warner Brothers crime drama.
We have the barely-able-to-raise-a-scruffy-beard grad student ararchist. We have the slightly overweight, highly untelegenic Gender-and-Race-Studies woman screaming slogans that were hackneyed in Gus Hall’s day. We have the loveable old commie shouting Marxist slogans complete with bullhorn and Army surplus fatigue jacket lovingly preserved since 1970. We have a couple of tenured social sciences profs from local universities slumming for the afternoon and showing their “solidarity.” And above all we have the fetid cloying smell of smug self-satisfaction that overpowers even the stench of the garbage and human waste.
Nice to see Ms. Peolosi got her wish.
Gret writing there, chambers
I sincerely hope that this (not real sure what to call it) is shown on prime time national TV.
I have never seen such a painfully earnest, yet completely clueless group in my life.
Please, PLEASE let this message get maximum coverage.
OUCH.
That was painful to watch. Sorry, I had to hit the STOP button at 20 sec. mark. Calling these people adolescent is maybe an insult to teenagers.
This was too funny. The crowd reminds me of the multitude swarming around Mandy’s house in “Life of Brian”, all responding as if with one mind…
The movement is gaining momentum in its THIRD week now and Occupations are popping up all over the country! Stand up together and use your voice to give to those without through peace and solidarity. Tax the rich and feed the poor- you are the 99%! See my Occupy Wall Street painting and Anonymous homage on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/09/occupywallstreet.html where you can also see videos of the protests and police brutality as well as get other sources for coverage of the movement.
Up Twinkles!!!11!
Have we seen even ONE of these protesters interviewed who makes a goddamned bit of sense?
This generation is lost, but resist we much. Don’t let this happen to the next generation.
Interestingly enough, here’s a video of Frances Fox Piven at OWS earlier that day.

They are doing the “human mic” thing in NYC because they aren’t allowed to have megaphones due to noise ordinances.
