The Silence of the Liberals

April 1st, 2014 - 7:35 am

Am I the only one or have you noticed your liberal friends and family have been strangely silent lately?

I tweeted as much Friday and, given the number of retweets in a matter of minutes, I gather I am not alone.

So why are these normally voluble people suddenly doing a disappearing act? (I’m not talking about the politicians and pundits.  They’re being paid to move their mouths.)  It’s pretty obvious.

They are bewildered and embarrassed.  Some are even ashamed of themselves, not that they will readily admit it.  The man who was their hero has now been unmasked in every direction as the worst president since the Civil War and possibly earlier. Not only is he a cheesy liar, everything he has done, domestic and foreign, has failed, sometimes to extraordinary degrees. The domestic part is bad enough, but at least that might be reparable.  The foreign is another matter.  The world is spinning out of control.  Who knows where that will end?

Hence, the silence.

Easter and Passover celebrations will be a little easier for those on the right this year.  We won’t have to listen to as much stultifying palaver about global warming, income inequality, etc.  Some, of course, but not enough, I suspect, to ruin our dinners.

Unfortunately, however, we have nothing to gloat about.  Our liberal friends have left us with a pile of dung the size of  the Horsehead Nebula.  Digging out will be a titanic undertaking, especially in the aforementioned area of foreign affairs.   Ironically, Republicans have been jumping up and down about the inept Affordable Care Act, but the real problems left by the Obama administration will be global.  You don’t easily roll back an Iranian nuclear weapon or regain respect for America as the global leader when it is being dissed in nearly ever corner of the planet. (See Bret Stephens’ excellent column on the subject.) Just as nature abhors a vacuum, global leadership abdicated rapidly finds a replacement – usually a worse one. (Rand Paul and followers take note.)

I'm getting tired of implications that Obama is the worst president since Buchanan, or that they are possibly equals in horribleness. All evidence indicates that Buchanan still felt that the United States was, if not the greatest nation in the world, at least a pretty nice country. Obama rolls out of the bed, looks out the window at the flag flying on the lawn, and wishes it was not so.

Hilton Kramer:

It is in the nature of Stalinism for its adherents to make a certain kind of lying—and not only to others, but first of all to themselves—a fundamental part of their lives. It is always a mistake to assume that Stalinists do not know the truth about the political reality they espouse. If they don’t know the truth (or all of it) one day, they know it the next, and it makes absolutely no difference to them politically For their loyalty is to something other than the truth. And no historical enormity is so great, no personal humiliation or betrayal so extreme, no crime so heinous that it cannot be assimilated into the “ideals” that govern the true Stalinist mind which is impervious alike to documentary evidence and moral discrimination.

Roger, it's not Obama. It's the 58 million people who voted for him. Twice. And would do it again in a heartbeat. You need to get out more.

Roger, what about the thuggery and intimidation their party leaders exact on their people? The Unions. The minorities via the NAACP, LaRaza and the hispanics, the militant gays. The government employs too many people who fear andy rational approach to a balanced budget might mean they'll lose their high salary and benefits, however embarrassing it is that the party they support is corrupt as hell. They're as bad as organized crime

You must know liberals with a better sense of reality, then. The ones I know are still swearing boastfully that Obama is wonderful, that Obamacare has proven its critics wrong, that Little Barry has outmaneuvered Putin every step of the way and that the only things still wrong are Bush's fault.

What effective and obtainable can be done about it all?

An effective, again & as designed, U.S. Senate.

Any & every PJM commenter, and reader and informed, concerned American should regularly support and donate to a win capable, conservative U.S. Senate candidate.

The Beltway/political class/obama-valjartards are now doubling down on dumb, destructive, and d _ _ n dangerous. An effective U.S. Senate can be a start on what little can be accomplished in any of our own lifetimes. It would also lessen the distress, fear, and helplessness & hopelessness we are are enduring. Or more simply put, "your money where your mouth is ...". Talk is cheap - do something, after any healthy venting.

"Our liberal friends have left us with a pile of dung the size of the Horsehead Nebula."

We can't just place all the blame on liberals, though a good deal of it does belong to them for pushing their destructive agenda. Apathy, passivity, division, immorality, indifference, cowardice and opportunism are not foreign to so called conservative circles either, particularly those politicians who masquerade as such.

President Obama is delivering his mandate and it does seem at this point that his naivete is unravelling things. The U.S military was certainly the lesser of many evils but it it going to take a lot more world chaos before that idea sinks in.

Don't gloat too much or too early. While every conservative goes off barking about every move Obama makes the left is given justification and fodder to attack cons as the enemy, rather than foolish policies. Be more subtle, more circumspect in critique. I have noticed there is more racism and vulgarity of insult creeping into the comments evrywhere.

It really does seem to me that they are giving themselves the rope and no nations respect nor desire our limpid western degeneracy.

Well said. Keep the discourse elevated, and subtlety goes a long way in advancing an argument. Being infuriatingly calm, as an ex once accused me of, can be extremely helpful when confronted by run-away liberal arguments that degrades into 'Bush did it' or 'Its the Koch's fault'. Stay strong, remain calm.

Not at all sure about the second thoughts from the collectivist junta that passes as media. Surely there are some, the stumbles from the WH circus make that inevitable, but in the main they're all in on this grotesque administration and a president who epitomizes corruption mingled with stupidity and hate of America, therefore a man who the media gladly supports.
Truly, this little beast is the one they were waiting for.

Something tells me that taxpayer money will insure that the marxists' will continue to dismantle the country that transformed the world in less than 200 years. They like thugocracies better, for obvious reasons.

I agree. This is way too early to be gloating. The opposition won January through September of 2012, too, then Liberals went on to win the 5 weeks that mattered.
