Meet the Radical DOJ Lawyer Forcing Florida to Keep Foreigners on the Voter Rolls
Yesterday, Eric Holder’s Voting Section ordered Florida to stop purging foreigners from the voter rolls. Two weeks ago, Florida found 53,000 dead voters registered to vote. Florida has also found non-citizens on the voter rolls and Secretary of State Ken Detzner has started the process of removing them.
Not so fast, says Eric Holder’s DOJ.
In a letter to Detzner, the DOJ says to stop removing foreigners from the rolls. The Voting Section makes a dubious argument under Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act, a law the Obama administration has refused to enforce because of ideological opposition. The letter notes that Elise Shore is the attorney behind the letter.

What do we know about Elise Shore from the installment about the Voting Section?
Elise Shore. Ms. Shore came to the Voting Section by way of the “Southern Coalition for Social Justice,” where she worked as a legal consultant focusing on “voting rights, immigrant rights, and other civil rights and social justice issues.” The far left-wing positions of this group are nicely summarized on its website. Ms. Shore also made a $1,000 contribution to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
Before joining the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, she worked for more than two years as a Regional Counsel for MALDEF [Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund]. There, she was an outspoken critic of Georgia’s voter ID law and well as its proof of citizenship requirements for voter registration (which, incidentally, have been found to be non-discriminatory by a federal court) and described how heartened she was that the Civil Rights Division had objected to the registration law under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. But her joy must have been fleeting: the Division later capitulated and withdrew its objection after Georgia filed a federal declaratory judgment action. It will be interesting to see if Shore can put her politics to the side in her role as the Voting Section’s point of contact for all redistricting submissions in the state of Florida.
It looks like Ms. Shore wasn’t able to set aside MALDEF-style radicalism, even after she started working for the taxpayers of the United States. Sadly, this private radicalism has metastasized into radical open-borders public policy. Not only does the DOJ stop states from enforcing their laws pertaining to illegal immigration, the DOJ is forcing Florida to keep non-citizens on the voter rolls. We have entered strange and dangerous times.

Good grief! How on Earth does a radical left-wing ideologue like that get hired to work on voting matters for the Department of Justice? Holder and his minions are just shameless. What a tragedy that Holder has so politicized the Civil Rights Division. It does really show, though, the utter hypocrisy of his criticisms of the Bush Administration. Holder, much like this Elise Shore, is little more than a hack.

Since when does a DoJ lawyer have the power to tell a State to do anything? Particularly if that State is acting lawfully? Does not DoJ need a court order, authority and jurisdiction?

How does the Voting Rights Act come into play for the removal of dead voters from the rolls? If a person is dead, what is the justification for their retention on the rolls. If Florida doesn’t stop the process, what will DOJ do? Do we have to sit still and let DOJ destroy our country until Jan 2013.
Another potential legal problem for us: Holder was part of the Clinton Presidential pardon process. What do we do if outgoing President Obama pardons Charles Manson, John W. Hinckley, Bernie Madoff, and all of the convicted Islamic terrorists? Can that be prevented?

More complicated than that. The statutes which enable purges in Florida have been precleared. DOJ thinks every butterfly effect consequence and procedure under the statute has to also be precleared. That’s why they sent the letter. They believe what Florida is doing has not been precleared.
Obama has no reason to pardon Manson, Hinckley, or Madoff. I don’t know why you’d even mention them.

From the DoJ VRA Section 5 webpage; “It is important to understand that Section 5 applies only to changes in practices or procedures affecting voting.”
From the linked Miami Herald article it appears the States argument is that ensuring the accuracy of voter rolls does not constitute “changes in practices or procedures affecting voting.” Therefore no review/approval required by DoJ (AG).
It still looks to me like the issue has to be litigated…the letter from DoJ is simply a demand letter…which can ignored until litigated. True?

And the eligible voters being stricken is exactly ZERO! Under Florida law no one is stricken from the voter rolls until the County Registrar of Elections has investigated the list from the state and verified the allegation.
Evidence? I could be wrong, but I don’t believe we have seen anything that points to valid voters kicked off the rolls.

The root problem is one of integrity, and competence. Are the lists of eligible voters in Florida, or any state, accurate and error free? Due to corrupt practices of people who have rotted long ago, the southern states, alone, must review their voting procedures, in a timely manner, with the US Department of Justice, and either accept their position or take the conflict before a federal judge. Florida is attempting to purge ineligible non citizens by a modern method, computer data base cross checking, which is common in all modern commercial practices. The residual, the small suspect sub population, filtered from state driver’s license data bases, may have people who once were non citizens, but subsequently became citizens and thus eligible voters. Florida’s election people wrote letters to these folks and asked for a response. DOJ says that is unfair. Moreover, the most well funded, and hence assumed most accurate data base, is the property of the federal government’s Homeland Security Department from which Florida has requested help. The feds have refused.
The essential conflict is not race, or political cheating, but a turf battle between DOJ and the state. Who holds the whip?
In a sane world, non extant, the Florida request to Homeland Security should destroy the DOJ dictate. Crooks do not ask G men for help with crimes, normally. Politically, should this fiasco be the bases for ending a law, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, that treats states differently, for no valid reason. Is Florida any more corrupt than Illinois? But the real policy question, worthy of debate among adults in Washington D. C., is the proper use of the power of modern electronics, e.g., computers, by the various governments, for the common good. Had Hitler had today’s computers, not one Jew would have survived the holocaust.

The counter move for Florida is to make the casting of any illegal vote a felony subject to jail time and banishment from voting or holding public office for twenty years.
Right now it is in the mid 90s every day here and a couple of large tent jails a la Sheriff Joe can be built quickly in the middle of the State for these felons to serve their time.

This defense of non-citizens voting rights doesn’t surprise me. San Francisco has tried several times to give voting rights in local elections (e.g., school board candidates) to non-citizens. The rationale: they live here, they use local services, they should have a say (vote).

Those who are resident in the graveyards should be able to vote if they can come up with valid current drivers license and proof of residence. Anyone else who had proof of being here as a citizen of with a legal status card should be allowed to vote also. BUT if all you have is a piece of mail, that isn’t legal proof of anything but receiving mail, that may not be for you, which isn’t proof of anything really. I could vote in a state with a piece of mail I sent to myself under any name I wanted to us, to an address I could retrieve it from, but that doesn’t mean I am eligible to vote there.
ALL states should be verifying voter status and the election isn’t until Nov, so the 90 days isn’t until the first part of September, so they have plenty of time to purge the voter records. Good for FL as the DOJ has no grounds to prevent them from cleaning up their voter list since they are the ones who withheld the approval in the first place without a justifiable reason.
It is time this nation defied the federal governments overstepping and did what was right and lawful in each state. The states are in charge of nearly everything except the army and printing money, according to the Constitution in the first place.
Suggest you read the elections clause in the Constitution. Your assertions are not entirely accurate.

Obama and his troops in media, academies and allies in Federal and State Congress and Judiciary have underscored their intentions by their brownshirts on the streets of America. His challenge to the representatives in Congress and Judiciary to STOP and roll-back clear abrogations of Americans’ rights has not been taken up. Those not active allies to his purpose have been too craven or self-interested to stop his crimiinal abuses of the Law/Constitution.
Obama and his army are increasingly ruthless as resistance to his plans from oridinary people grows.

Failure to provide fair and honest elections will drive the hard working people that fund the tax base away. They will move to states where not only are the elections fair but this always means they can afford to live without the high taxes on property, income and sales. Why do you think Florida and Texas are doing so well while Illinois, California and New York are doing so poorly? It is just one of the shackles on your human rights, forget that they violate every federal and local law, and your very existence. Rat here in MN, we had a guy get elected to the U.S. Senate on the thinnest of margins, covered by more votes than residents in one northern Minnesota precinct. All this was officialized by the state Supreme Court, or actually a 3-member subcommittee of the Court, one of whom was Alan Page, the NFL Hall of Famer Purple People Eater defensive lineman.
It is not fair to the dead people in Florida who won’t be able to vote like the dead people in Illinois or Maryland or other democrat states.

What we need to do is to work ourselves ragged getting out the vote for the Republican candidates in November. We have to mobilize the conservative 40% of the country, and win over the 15% of independents who are not yet sure how they will vote.
