Hollywood, that bastion of progressive thought, that champion of the little guy, apparently likes to coerce laborers into working for free. That’s the allegation from a group of animators who worked on the newly released R-rated film, Sausage Party. From The Hollywood Reporter:
[A letter signed by 30 animators] alleges that “unfair pressure tactics” were “used against the team: intimidating staff into working past official studio hours, disciplinary measures utilizing fear tactics that demotivate and cause distress (such as threatening to terminate employment), implying that other departments are working overtime ‘voluntarily’ as a reason to deny compensation.”
… the animators paint a picture of an oppressive production schedule. “These issues are breaking people’s ability to focus on animation and are making for an unrewarding and frustrating work environment,” the letter continued.
The production company in question, Nitrogen Studios, denies the allegations. However, the film’s co-financier, Annapurna Pictures, responded by insisting laborers be paid and provided for.
It’s just so weird that pro-union Hollywood liberals would attempt to cut corners by mistreating staff. It’s almost as if they don’t actually believe the things they say.
