So much of what Stevie Wonder did in the ’70s was such self-absorbed twaddle, because he’d reached that point of success where there was nobody with the ability to tell him No. But it was such listenable and fun self-absorbed twaddle, that it makes me glad nobody did tell him.

Here he is live in 1995, playing perhaps his most self-absorbed and twaddle-y song ever, “Do I Do.” The album version features Dizzy Gillespie, which is awesome, but goes on for a full five minutes longer, which is not so awesome.

And I wasn’t able to ID the bass player, who owns the stage here — any ideas?
