There’s absolutely nothing “efficient” about romance, which is one of its irreducible charms. But I’m afraid there’s also no turning back the clock, which makes me somewhat sad for the deficit of romantic opportunities my sons will face (my oldest will turn 20 in 2025) in nation where “microbial matchmaking,” “quantified relationships,” and “revenge analytics” inexorably become norms.

I don’t even want to know what that last one is, but I’m pretty sure my initial guess is exactly right.

There’s nothing quite like taking the chance of introducing yourself to a pretty girl and seeing where things go, based on your talents and charms, while discovering one another’s compatibilities. Let’s hope there’s still some room for that in the future.
