In the comments to today’s Trifecta segment on Detroit’s woes, they’re not even vainly fighting the old ennui. Here’s what Sundog had to say:
Detroit is finished. The state and federal governments should declare it a disaster area and focus on helping people evacuate before the infrastructure collapses completely. Once that’s done, divide the city into parcels and auction off the salvage rights to companies that can extract valuable resources like structural steel and copper pipes and wires. After the ruins are stripped of all that stuff, bulldoze what’s left, clear the rubble, and clean up any environmental contamination so the land can be sold to farmers or paper manufacturers, so that it can be used to grow crops or trees.
It’s depressing because I can’t argue with it.
