Detroit just didn’t have it in them this year:

Is it more unbelievable that Calgary simply beat Detroit, or that the Flames held the heroes of Hockeytown without a goal for two consecutive games? Of course, the second fact largely made the first possible, along with several other elements of effectiveness on the part of the Flames.

Now, if my Avalanche can’t pull off a miracle against San Jose — which seems likely — then my Stanley Cup dreams have to go with Calgary.

Why? Because the Flames knocked our archrival Red Wings out on the running, and CuJo — who used to stop pucks for my hometown Blues — deserves to hold the Cup.

But not yet, oh Lord, not yet. Not while the Avs still have a slight chance.
