I knew there was more trouble to come, when I pulled out the old power outlet and it fell apart in my hand.

Let me backtrack here a moment. This is a great house; we love it dearly. But it’s 22 years old, and certain things are just wrong. For example, on the ground floor, all the power outlets are upside down. The lightswitches are all the right way up, so I’m pretty sure the previous owners walked on the floor and not, as indicated by the outlets, on the ceiling.

The basement outlets are, with only one exception, all right side up. Since the basement was originally unfinished, I have to guess the upstairs outlets were installed by the homebuilders, who were, apparently, drunk.

Not as drunk as whoever put the tile between the upper and lower kitchen cabinets
