This site mentioned yesterday that Germany’s Green Party will be the tail that wags the Social Democrat dog — but I didn’t realize just how true that is.

This chart from The Guardian shows that the Christian Democrats (center-right) actually out-polled the Social Democrats (center-left). Were it not for the Greens (in coalition with the SDP) garnering a few thousand more votes than CDP-partner Free Democrats, then the lefties would have lost.

Don’t think for one minute that the Green Party will let the SDP forget it.

For my money, that is the worst result of Sunday’s election.
