At the funeral for Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” on Friday, the Rev. Al Sharpton took a pot-shot at President Donald Trump.
“You know, the other Sunday on my show, I misspelled ‘Respect,'” Sharpton started, referencing the hit song by Aretha Franklin. “And a lot of y’all corrected me. Now I want y’all to help me correct President Trump to teach him what it means.”
The crowd broke into loud applause.
“And I say that because when word had went out that Miss Franklin passed, Trump said she used to work for me,” Sharpton continued. He proceeded to “correct” the president. “She used to perform for you, she worked for us.”

Trump had offered his condolences to Franklin’s family at a cabinet meeting. “I want to begin today by expressing my condolences to the family of a person I knew well,” the president said, CBS News reported. “She worked for me on numerous occasions. She was terrific — Aretha Franklin — on her passing.”
“She’s brought joy to millions of lives and her extraordinary legacy will thrive and inspire many generations to come,” Trump continued. “She was given a great gift from God — her voice, and she used to well. People loved Aretha. She was a special woman. So just want to pass on my warmest best wishes and sympathies to her family.”
The president also tweeted his respect. “The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, is dead. She was a great woman, with a wonderful gift from God, her voice,” Trump tweeted. “She will be missed!”
