Rand Paul: A Man 'Threatened to Kill Me and Chop Up My Family With an Ax'

On Monday, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) came forward about yet another threat to his personal safety — and to that of his family.

“This weekend, the Capitol Hill police issued an arrest warrant,” Paul told reporters on video. “This man had threatened to kill me and chop up my family with an axe.”

“It’s just horrendous that we’re having to deal with things like this,” Paul added. He mentioned the assault from his neighbor Rene Boucher, which left him hospitalized, along with the congressional baseball practice shooting last summer.

“We have 24-hour security now, I can’t go anywhere without security,” the senator explained. “I can’t even go to church without being worried about someone being there.”

Paul has always been a civil senator. “I never had a cross word with Democrats,” he explained. “People need to not think that our political differences have to end in violence.”

When attacked (from behind, wearing headphones) by his neighbor last November, Paul suffered five rib fractures and required medical attention for pneumonia. Former Obama staffer Tommy Vietor chose to mock Paul for this attack, as though the senator could have seen it coming.

James Hodgkinson, the man who shot Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) last summer, had “liked” the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) on Facebook. That organization — which recently paid a $3.4 million settlement after wrongly brandishing an “extremist” label against a Muslim reformer, opening the floodgates for more lawsuits — had repeatedly attacked Scalise.

Responding to the recent threats against Paul, Scalise tweeted, “This has to stop.” Amen.

Both the Left and the Right have allowed their political fears to dominate them, and the ideology of the Left does more to promote a politicizing of everything and almost a worship of politics. That’s why liberals are pushing for constant harassment of Trump officials. Americans need to re-learn civility, to accept that there are more important things than politics.

If those liberals who brandish the Bible as an argument against immigration laws would actually consult the book they claim to defend, they would find the civility America so desperately needs.
