Activist Slams Pelosi: 'Are You Okay With Having a White Supremacist in Power For Four Years?'

At a town hall over the weekend, an activist pressured House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for not impeaching President Donald Trump.

“The idea that we are going to put all our eggs in the basket of the 2018 midterm election is seriously delusional,” a male activist who identified himself with www.refusefascism.org declared. He argued that the 2018 election “does nothing about the executive power which Trump has and he’s continuing to use.”

The Leftist charged that Trump has been “threatening the whole world with nuclear weapons, right, plundering our precious ecosystems, now opening up our coastline right now, accepting the fact that we are going to have a white supremacist in power for four years and Nancy Pelosi has said impeachment is off the table.”

The activist asked Pelosi specifically, “Are you okay with having a white supremacist in power for four years?”

“The Trump-Pence regime has to go. This nightmare has to end and it is on us. We can’t wait for elections. We can’t wait for 2020,” the man declared.

As he concluded his remarks, the audience chanted, “Nancy! Nancy!” Pelosi insisted he be allowed to speak, but quickly dismissed his remarks.

“Don’t worry about that. He’s had his moment,” the congresswoman said. She suggested that elections were actually the answer to restraining Trump, rather than impeachment. “Balance of power, separation of power, elections accomplish that. Next question?”

Pelosi’s response was admirable, but Democrat rhetoric against Trump has inspired the kind of vitriol behind this activist’s remarks. Trump has given many off-color remarks, but it is far from clear he is a racist, much less a “white supremacist.”

Even so, Democrats in Virginia plastered Republican Ed Gillespie — who immediately condemned the Charlottesville white nationalist protests — as a white nationalist. They sent a mailer connecting Gillespie and Trump with Charlottesville, to very little outrage. A later ad explicitly tarred Gillespie as a genocidal racist.

Indeed, minority turnout increased in the 2017 election, propelling the Democrat to victory in the gubernatorial election.

Extreme rhetoric might help Democrats win elections, but it also divides the party. If this man sees Pelosi as a sellout for not impeaching Trump, will his action inspire primary challenges against more reasonable Democrats?

Six Democrats have introduced articles of impeachment against the president — a mere 6 out of 193 in the House of Representatives. Pelosi was not among them.
