In a question-and-answer session on Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) revealed a stunning hypocrisy on God’s creation, and attempted to use her Catholic faith to justify “a woman’s right to choose.”
“God gives us a free will and holds us responsible and accountable for our actions,” Pelosi said, explaining that “it is my view that it is up to a woman to have her own right to choose the size of her family.”
In essence, Pelosi attempted to use a Roman Catholic doctrine — free will — to justify the ability to choose something the Roman Catholic Church outspokenly condemns as murder.
In fact, Pelosi was defending not just a woman’s “right” to choose an abortion, but the legality of abortions after a baby’s heart has formed in the womb.
A questioner highlighted the congresswoman’s hypocrisy, quoting Pelosi saying, “We need to be responsible stewards of God’s creation, and that it dishonors God to pull out of the Paris accord.” Pelosi admitted she had said this, and the questioner immediately shot back, “The Heartbeat Protection Act would prohibit aborting a baby with a heartbeat. Does it dishonor God to abort a baby with a beating heart?”
Pelosi’s comments about free will followed this question. The congresswoman insisted, “I completely respect a woman’s right to choose,” noting that she had five children within six years. “I come from a very strong Italian Catholic family.”
She even admitted that “many of my family members do not share my view.” That would be an understatement: Catholic teaching clearly condemns abortion, and Roman Catholic leaders are at the forefront of the movement to restrict abortion. The Catholic doctrine of free will does not justify government allowing people to commit crimes.
But Pelosi’s hypocrisy — and that of the Left generally on these issues — needs to be noted. If Democrats argue for climate change legislation to “honor God’s creation,” then they should also oppose abortion, since the Bible (and for Catholics like Pelosi, Catholic tradition) clearly states that God knits people together in their mother’s wombs (Psalm 139:13-14).
