Dave Chappelle Regrets Giving Trump a Chance: 'I F**ked Up'

On Monday night, comedian Dave Chappelle reportedly told an audience he regrets his decision to give President Donald Trump a chance.

“I was the first guy on TV to say, ‘Give Trump a chance,'” Chappelle said in his stand-up act at New York’s Robin Hood gala on Monday night. “I f**ked up. Sorry.”

Chappelle wasn’t exactly welcoming to Trump or conservatives in that original November sketch, when he mocked “Blue Lives Matter” and blamed “the whites” for electing “an Internet troll as our president.”

The comedian did echo Hillary Clinton in suggesting Americans give Trump a chance, however. (No, he wasn’t the first one to say so on television.)

“I’m wishing Donald Trump luck, and I’m going to give him a chance,” Chappelle said. “We, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one, too.”

On Monday, after announcing he regretted that declaration, the comedian joked, “Every day, we wake up never knowing what he’s going to do next, Donald Trump. He’s exciting like you thought a black president would have been.” Now that‘s a punchline.
