A news tabloid which has endorsed Donald Trump and openly attacked his Republican primary opponents in the past has unleashed allegations of a Ted Cruz sex scandal. Throughout the campaign, Trump has become notorious for personal insults, and his connections with the National Enquirer trace back years. Nevertheless the magazine would likely not publish the story — and risk a tremendous lawsuit — without some evidence, unless Trump also promised to “pay their legal fees.”

The Enquirer endorsed Trump earlier this month. Trump and Enquirer CEO David Pecker have been friends for years, as New York magazine reported in December of last year. A source close to the tabloid told the magazine “they’re very close.” Trump even tweeted, in July 2013, that Pecker should become CEO of Time magazine — “he’d make it exciting and win awards!”
New York also reported that the tabloid supported Trump before he declared his candidacy, and attacked numerous competitors in the presidential race, from retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson to former Florida Governor Jeb Bush to former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. The Enquirer‘s cover story headline against Carson? “Bungling Surgeon Ben Carson Left Sponge in Patient’s Brain!” The article alleged that Carson — the first surgeon to separate conjoined twins — “brandished a scalpel like a meat cleaver!”
That said, the tabloid has accurately attacked a few past presidential hopefuls, such as Gary Hart, Jesse Jackson, and John Edwards. The attack against Cruz does include five blanked-out photos of Cruz’s alleged mistresses. Some have even argued the Enquirer would never legally “go there“ if it did not hold a very reasonable certainty that the story is accurate. Some of the women in the Enquirer‘s photos have allegedly been identified on Twitter.
A source who has been close to Cruz in the past, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, insisted that the Texas senator had never seemed anything other than a good family man. At a debate, Cruz danced with his daughters behind the scenes and when he lived in Austin, Texas, and his wife lived in Washington, D.C., they tried to get together every weekend.
From a Christian standpoint, men and women are fallen creatures, and Ted and Heidi Cruz were often separated in their young marriage. The story may be true, but the timing and the outlet are conspicuous.
A bombshell like this, released by a tabloid with clear connections to Trump at a time when Trump could really use his major competition dropping out of the race, so he can gain enough delegates to win the nomination outright, is rather suspicious. Especially when Trump has promised — to thugs who beat people up at his rallies — that he would “pay their legal fees.”
