Donald Trump May Have an Edge—with Black Voters

Get ready to have your mind blown. Donald Trump may be president this time next year, and some Republican pollsters are saying black voters could give him the edge. Politico spoke with GOP messaging guru Frank Luntz, and this is what he said:

If he were the Republican nominee he would get the highest percentage of black votes since Ronald Reagan in 1980… They listen to him. They find him fascinating, and in all the groups I have done, I have found Obama voters, they could’ve voted for Obama twice, but if they’re African-American they would consider Trump.

Luntz is not implying that Trump will win over 50 percent of black voters—even Reagan only got 13 percent. But double-digits would be significant after McCain’s dismal four percent and Romney’s six percent.

An anonymous GOP pollster and veteran of multiple presidential campaigns came to the same conclusion when he tested Trump’s appeal to blacks and Hispanics. “He behaves in a way that most minorities would not expect a billionaire to behave….He’s not a white-bread socialite kind of guy,” the pollster told Politico.

Trump has already begun outreach to the African-American community, reaching out to black faith leaders and enlisting a pair of black female video bloggers, Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway and Rochelle “Silk” Richardson, to his cause.

He’ll have to get through a tough nomination fight, but the media mogul just might win—helped along by the most reliable Democrat demographic.
