Evergreen State Professor Relocates His Family Amidst Threats to His Safety
Professor Bret Weinstein wasn't looking to spark something nasty. He simply thought telling white people to stay away from campus for a day is exclusionary and racist because, well, it is literally exclusionary and racist.
Weinstein says he is a liberal, and seems to genuinely want everyone to live in peace with one another. For that, he's afraid he won't be able to live in peace anymore. From IJ Review:
The evolutionary biology professor says that he still “has obligations” to the school, but told Fox News's Tucker Carlson that he’s moved his family for their safety and doesn’t believe it’s safe for him to return:The college has never acknowledged the danger that they put us in and therefore there’s no way of knowing whether it’s safe for me to return. Their assurances that it is safe don’t mean anything, not that they’ve offered them.
He says his colleagues seem afraid to speak out in his behalf:I’ve received tremendous support outside of the college, and I've received quite a bit of support privately from within the college. Publicly, only one other professor has come forward to say he supports my position.
For its part, on a webpage devoted to the campus unrest, Evergreen says the campus safety is its “top priority”:Safety for all is a top priority. Evergreen Police Services are present and are on duty 24 hours a day ...'
The school also described Bret Weinstein as a current employee who will not be fired as students demanded.
That's great, but being safe at work doesn't matter if Weinstein can't even return to his home.
The situation at Evergreen State College is beyond "out of hand." Due to the school's nature, extreme leftism is to be expected. However, ensuring safety remains very much a responsibility of any college administration. They failed.
As much as I've bashed Berkeley for its meek response to what happened when Milo Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak, at least that administration managed to prevent roving bands of armed leftists from treating the campus as their own personal Fury Road.
Evergreen State's administration has lost control. Completely. I hope they now lose their funding, and not out of spite -- as I hope no such thing for Berkeley -- but because the idea that taxpayers are paying for a school that deteriorated to the point that students are policing free speech with violence triggers my inner snowflake.
That's right, I find it offensive. This college needs to be cut off from public money. Let the free market force this cesspool to shutter its doors.
