What Was McDonald's Thinking With This Nasty Anti-Trump Tweet?

At 9:16 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, the McDonald’s corporate Twitter account released an explosive message — shortly before deleting it. But don’t worry, once on the Internet, always on the Internet.

“@realDonaldTrump you are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands,” the account tweeted.

While the message was deleted very quickly, the trusty Sean Davis, cofounder of the Federalist, memorialized the message.

Some conservatives took the message for real. “Why would you post this! You think it’s ok to insult our president? For the record Obama was a failure! #BoycottMcDonalds,” one user tweeted.

One commenter suggested, “I assume somebody decided to quit their social media job in style.”

Fox Business commentator John Cardillo noted that “Obama spox Robert Gibbs is their Global Chief of Comms. McDisgraceful.” Cardillo’s wit in that final word notwithstanding, it is exceedingly unlikely Gibbs would be so unprofessional.

But McDonalds followed up the incident with an explanation: “Twitter notified us that our account was compromised. We deleted the tweet, secured our account and are now investigating this.”

The brief message did not suggest exactly how the account was compromised, but it seems the fast food chain was more likely the victim of identity theft than anything else.
