Black Lives Matter leadership appears to be of two minds when it comes to violence against the police. Many of their supporters across the country advocate murdering whites and policemen while the national Black Lives Matter Network swears the group is peaceful and only wants “dignity and justice.”
Whom to believe? The BLMN issued a pious statement condemning the violence against police in Dallas as well as efforts to tie the deaths of the officers to their movement.
“As we have done for decades, we marched and protested to highlight the urgent need to transform policing in America, to call for justice, transparency and accountability and to demand that Black Lives Matter,” the statement reads. “In Dallas, many gathered to do the same, joining in a day of action with friends, family and co-workers.
BLM called the attack a “tragedy — both for those who have been impacted by yesterday’s attack and for our democracy.”
There are some who would use these events to stifle a movement for change and quicken the demise of a vibrant discourse on the human rights of Black Americans. We should reject all of this.
Black activists have raised the call for an end to violence, not an escalation of it. Yesterday’s attack was the result of the actions of a lone gunman. To assign the actions of one person to an entire movement is dangerous and irresponsible. We continue our efforts to bring about a better world for all of us.
Is that true? Actually, no. Many local BLM chapters and self-identified supporters of the organization have been openly calling for the murder of police and white people.
The BLM statement’s rejection of the murder of five Dallas police officers displays a very different attitude on civilian violence against law enforcement.
Back in August 2015, the St. Paul, Minn. Black Lives Matter branch organized a rally after a Harris County (TX) Sheriff’s deputy was ambushed and executed at a gas station. rally, protesters carried signs reading “End White Supremacy” while chanting anti-cop rhetoric, like “pigs in a blanket, fry ’em like bacon.”

Black Lives Matters owns these people at least as much as the left says the Tea Party owns the racists and homophobes they claim are part of the movement. It makes their angry denunciations of those who believe their incendiary rhetoric motivated the Dallas cop killer ring hollow, indeed.
