Eight-year-old Mari Copeny from Flint, Mich., sent President Obama a message last month. She told him about her activism on behalf of those affected by Flint’s contaminated water and asked if he would meet with her and others from Flint when they came to Washington, D.C., for testimony by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder at a congressional hearing.
“My mom said chances are you will be too busy with more important things, but there is a lot of people coming on these buses and even just a meeting from you or your wife would really lift people’s spirits,” she wrote.
That never happened. Hey, why take a few minutes out of being the leader of the free world to make nice with a photo opp when you can waste some taxpayer money and blow a whole day doing it?

Flint, MichiganDear Mari: Thank you for writing to me. You’re right that Presidents are often busy, but the truth is, in America, there is no more important title than citizen. And I am so proud of you for using your voice to speak out on behalf of the children of Flint.
That’s why I want you to be the first to know that I’m coming to visit Flint on May 4th. I want to make sure people like you and your family are receiving the help you need and deserve. Like you, I’ll use my voice to call for change and help lift up your community.
Letters from kids like you are what make me so optimistic for the future. I hope to meet you next week, “Little Miss Flint.”
Sincerely,
Barack Obama
In an election where the Democrats are mostly focusing on emotional, made-up nonsense like the magic powers of a mandated $15 an hour minimum wage and the climate bogeyman, the only real issue their presidential candidates have gotten anywhere near is a public health crisis their party created in a city with fewer than 100,000 people. Even then, they make things up: Michigan has a white Republican governor at the moment, so they can pretend it’s his fault because racism and stuff.
In the interest of maintaining the “Historic First!” stranglehold on the White House for another eight years, the Democrats need to at minimum give the appearance of addressing at least one issue head-on, something they are certainly not doing when it comes to ISIS, the still stagnant economy or the overwhelming failure of Obamacare. Expect Flint, MI, to be the center of the Democrat universe for the next several months. Once Hillary beats Trump in November she won’t be able to find Flint on a map of just Flint again, of course, but she won’t need to.
Because for a moment, the president helped her make it seem like Democrats care.
And Dem voters lap that stuff up, even though it’s never true.
