Obama Thinks You Are Consumed With Fear for Opposing His Syrian Refugee Policy

President Obama thinks you’re consumed with fear while he isn’t.

Obama is chalking up opposition to his Syrian refugee plan as being the result of “fear” that is playing right into ISIS’s hands.

Politico reports:

ISIL’s still not the varsity team, President Barack Obama said Sunday, but if Republicans running for president and in Congress continue to respond to attacks by playing off fears, they’re doing the terrorists’ work for them.

A Republican reaction that’s tried to block refugees from entering the country—and members of the media whom he blamed for lacking perspective in coverage over the last week—gives into the fear like they want, helps them recruit, and lets a group of people who’d have no hope of actually defeating American forces on the battlefield win anyway.

First of all, Barry, we’re not “on the battlefield.” We’re flying a few sorties a day, hitting targets like humvees and oil trucks — only after a 45-minute warning, mind you. You have yet to seriously engage Islamic State in any way that would cause them any worry at all.

Who’s giving the enemy “hope”?

Upending American policy and talking about Christian-Muslim tests for entry that he said accept ISIL’s terms of a religious war and will increase the threat for more attacks.

“Prejudice and discrimination helps ISIL and undermines our national security,” Obama said.

Even as Obama credited the group also known as the Islamic State for the Paris attacks, and for the first time publicly, for taking down the Russian passenger jet in Egypt, Obama repeatedly spoke about the limitations of the terrorist network he two years ago he referred to as the “J.V. team” —a remark that his critics still cite as evidence that he underestimates the threat.

“They’re a bunch of killers with good social media,” Obama told reporters Sunday. They are “dangerous,” he said, but “our way of life is stronger. We have more to offer.”

Let me get this straight. A terrorist organization that is 30-50,000 strong has taken over half of Iraq and a good portion of Syria. It has established a government that feeds people, collects taxes, takes in oil revenue, and polices its conquests. Iraqi soldiers wet their pants at the sight of them. Such a terror group is just a “bunch of killers with good social media”?

I am speechless.

How many strawmen can you identify in this one paragraph?

“They can’t beat us on the battlefield, so they try to terrorize us into being afraid, into changing our patterns of behavior, into abandoning our allies and partners into retreating from the world,” Obama said. “As president I will not let that happen.

Huh? No one I know is “afraid” of Islamic State, or terrorism, or much of anything except a lawless president who cynically tries to manipulate us. No one is talking about any of those things, including abandoning allies or retreating from the world. The president simply set up those strawmen to show us how unafraid he is, compared to us schmucks who are shaking in our shoes over a few women and orphans from Syria.

Can you say “projection”?

Liberals have been saying for years that anyone who wants to get serious about homeland security or terrorism is “afraid,” making the obvious, unspoken point that they are unafraid, and this makes them superior creatures to you ignorant peasants It’s a strawman they’ve been stuffing since 9/11, and I have yet to see Obama or any lefty offer one shred of proof to prove their point.

Fear should never drive policy. But using common sense and caution in developing any policy is a good idea that President Obama finds unsatisfying for some reason. Applying a little of both virtues to the Syrian refugee question would be far preferable to the emotionalism and political posturing of the president and his allies.
