On a recent Qatar Airlines flight from Doha to Bali, a woman managed to get a plane to land after she found out her husband was cheating on her.
Flight QR-962 was forced to land at Chennai airport due to an unruly passenger, according to reports. The passenger, an Iranian woman, was traveling with her sleeping husband. She apparently used his thumb to unlock the biometric controls on his phone she could have herself a peek.
There she found ample evidence of her husband’s infidelity.
Then, in a display rather uncharacteristic of what we in the West would think of as normal for an Iranian woman, she began to pummel him in a manner that probably wouldn’t look out of place on the set of Jerry Springer.
The crew tried to calm the woman — because telling an angry wife with a cheating husband to calm down always works — but to no avail. As a result, the plane landed in India and the passenger, her husband, and their child who was also traveling with them were offloaded. Because they didn’t have visas for India, they were held at an airport detention center.
“The family spent the day at Chennai airport and was sent to Kuala Lumpur by a Batik Air flight. No police action was taken,” stated an officer of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) who requested anonymity.
Airline officials declined to share any information about the incident, stating passenger privacy concerns.
The wife’s reaction to her husband’s cheating seems to indicate that people are the same throughout the world, especially when it comes to things like infidelity. How that wife will fare once she returns to the oppressive environment of Iran is a concern. Let’s be honest: the Middle East is far from the bastion of human rights that Linda Sarsour likes to portray it as.
Still, not just anyone can make a plane divert and land because of a jealous rage, so she’s not as powerless as women are often portrayed… by either side, considering where they were coming from.
