I’m a massive science fiction fan. It all started with the original Star Wars in a darkened theater of my youth. My wife, while a Star Wars fan herself, is also a colossal fan of The Beatles. So imagine how awesome it was for us when we came across this Star Wars-themed parody set to The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Spread out over multiple videos, it covers both the entire album and the entire movie, and it’s the perfect way to perk up a Monday.
Just keep following…and LOLing.
It wasn’t a particularly swift project for the group, either, but the results are totally worth it.
Palette-Swap Ninja spent the past few years figuring out how to rewrite and convert Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart’s Club Band into Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans (say it on tune, you’ll get it), by literally rewriting the entire album to retell the story of Star Wars: A New Hope. It is amazing, surprisingly clever, and a toe-tapping good time. As io9 notes, it’s worth the price of admission (which is free!) alone for turning “Lucy in the sky with diamonds” into “Luke is in the desert and whining.”
It’s an amazing project, and you can tell the amount of care taken to break down every beat and lyric of this classic album and turn it into a geeky masterpiece. The deeper into the playlist you go, the more you’ll be impressed. Give it a listen, and you’ll never hear The Beatles the same again.
Honestly, you don’t even have to be a particular fan of either original to appreciate the awesomeness of this one.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I’ve always thought the most sincere was the parody, and Palette-Swap Ninja has nailed it with this humorous take on two different classics that no one else had thought to smash together.
Even Weird Al should bow in appreciation of this level of geeky genius.
